This is insane! Bama loses another staffer to Ohio State!

It would seem that any coach following Saban would want to keep some of the coaches that helped the Tide dominate college football for the past 10 years or so, but apparently Deboer doesn't follow that train of thought.
On3 is reporting that Alabama is set to lose another key staffer that played a huge role in helping Alabama land several top recruiting classes. Salm Petitto, who served as the Crimson Tide’s Director of Personnel Operations for the last eight years under Nick Saban, is starting his term with Ohio State on Monday, one source told Lettermen Row.
Petitto helped the Crimson Tide routinely land top-ranked and top-two-ranked recruiting classes under Saban.

Alabama just officially announced Courtney Morgan (like three days ago) as General Manager, which is essentially that same position.
This guy flew in on the plane that night with DeBoer, and was basically his first staff hire.
quote:
Morgan will be tasked with managing the Crimson Tide's roster while overseeing and directing the daily operations of both the personnel and recruiting departments. He will help organize the head coaches film evaluations and prospect communication while also organizing transfer portal evaluations.
Morgan helped Washington in this same role in 2023, assisting in the addition of key pieces through the transfer portal.
He also spent the 2021 season in that same position with the Michigan Wolverines, recruiting players who eventually went on to win the College Football Playoff National Championship this season.

Why keep someone who knows the south when you can hire another guy from the PNW?

Bama on the brain 24/7!

I love taking in Alabama coaches, players, and recruits to their forever homes in Columbus.

Except for the whole he was never retained by DeBoer. Courtney Morgan is the GM from day 1.

Another coach that doesn't want to be associated with DeBoer

Two counterpoints:
1. He's trying to clean house to speed up the process of moving on from Saban
2. He's keeping SOME guys, just not this one for whatever reasons

Dismantle it brick by brick

He was literally the first person to be replaced when DeBoer arrived.
He's been sitting around Tuscaloosa collecting a paycheck because most of those guys have contracts that run through May.

I’ll be completely honest, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Sam Petitto.

Petitto was the first staffer who DeBoer told didn’t have a spot on the new staff, FWIW.
Not sure why this is being reported as some kind of breaking news.

I think he was the one personally handing out the money as a courier.

When a new head coach is hired he brings his own people. He can keep some of the old staff if he wants but has absolutely zero obligation to retain anybody.

LOL. Only on this board is it bad for Alabama to lose this staffer I never heard of, but Nick Saban keeping an office and consulting with the coaches is also bad.
