They really don’t like others laughing at those standards either

Joe Burrow getting a statue back in 2021, Dylan Crews getting a statue next year, or Angel Reese getting a statue next year would be absolutely strange

You can't even compare it to those players as they won significant awards.

Elko was basically Tommy White with 40 less hits, 25 less RBI, and a worse batting average.

But you said it would be acceptable for a citrus bowl winner to get one only 2 months after leaving the school!

Link???

I don’t necessarily mind if Jayden Daniels gets a statue or not down the road. Even if he does, I trust LSU to let enough time pass for us to appreciate his legacy before a statue is raised in his honor like they did with Shaq and Pistol Pete

Yeah, that really got a rise out of them when I brought up he wasn’t even a nominee for the best player in the country that season

I can almost see Ole Miss going ahead and doing something to commemorate the guy with a plaque or something if he really stood out in the sport nationally. But no, he was a 5th year senior who got hot at the right time. This is like LSU making a statue of Alexis Morris in a couple months

Statues make sense for a player who wins a Heisman or the Golden Spikes Award.

Tommy White doesn't deserve a statue next year for his 2023 performance, that'd be crazy.

Maybe we can take every college football, basketball, and baseball athlete who has a statue on campus and average out the amount of time between their last season and the unveiling of the statue.

Something tells me about 0.01% of them will have been erected a mere 18 months after leaving their school

Hell, we can start the study at Ole Miss. Coolidge Ball, the first African American athlete to play any sport at Ole Miss, left the school in 1974. When did his statue go up? 47 years later in 2021

Well how long is that? We really need to know the specifics so that we can send a proper statue applications to the LSU fan statue council.

I’d imagine at least 5 years passed before they got a statue

Is this acting like a naive retard something you enjoy?

So….officially…it would be acceptable to give him a statue at least 3 years, at least 5 years, and 10-15 years.

Ok I think I finally understand. Wait…..do we take the statue down in years 4 and 6-9?

I know. Shaq didn’t win the heisman and I don’t recall him hitting any dingers while at LSU but somehow he managed to get a statue.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's an act.

Nobody is saying don’t appreciate the guy. He was definitely instrumental in bringing Ole Miss a championship. Hell,a statue down the road probably wouldn’t have been that crazy.

But I still can’t recall any college sports program putting up a statue of an athlete only 2 years after he left the school. Why are Ole Miss fans butthurt that I found it a little weird?

If you want an honest answer, I surprised it didn't come sooner. As we got hotter and hotter, OM fans started tagging our AD to build the man a statue if we won it all. That grew, the tim elko legend grew and it was announced immediately after winning it that a statue was coming.

This isn't something random and I don't necessarily think it's a statue for Tim Elko. I think it's a statue to pay tribute to the entire journey that year and no one better to display than the guy that kept it all together.

Honestly couldn't tell you what statues other schools have and couldn't give the slightest of cares. The statue is for Ole Miss and every fan will see that statue and remember the greatest run in college baseball history (only team to be last one in and win it all so that's a factual statement not a feeling).

The problem is that we didn't send an official proposal to the LSU Statue Counsel.

FWIW LSU gave Shaq a statue for winning the Heisman....or something. I'm not sure. The rules for statues have changed several times in the last few hours.

It’s a wall commemorating our first baseball national title and the statue is of the team captain who had the biggest part in getting us there.

Originally it was just going to be Elko but he refused to do it unless his teammates were included.

If you spend 6 pages arguing with LSU fans, that's on you.

Agreed The 10-year anniversary of the title would’ve made sense

This is a different argument and one I would be more willing to hear.

However, I can’t fault the University for celebrating a player who we would not have won a championship without.

But really at that point we’re arguing the appropriate amount of time to what…honor a player?
