SDS Opinion Piece
quote:
Barrie pointed to two coaches in the (now former) SEC West — LSU’s Brian Kelly and Texas A&M’s Mike Elko.
“I think Brian Kelly is licking his chops,” Barrie said, referencing consistent head-to-head recruiting battles LSU has with Alabama. “I think Mike Elko, who we think is a great coach who got into the job at the right time. They hired Jimbo to take out Nick Saban. Couldn’t be done. Saban’s gone of his own accord. Mike Elko walks into that thing… Imagine Texas A&M with their talent and using their talent properly, what that could do in a Nick Saban-less era.”
Kelly beat Alabama in his first year at the helm. The Tigers lost by 14 in 2023, however. A&M has beaten Alabama only once since Johnny Manziel left town.

Mike Elko won't even play Alabama every year.

Good point.

Kelly just managed to lose 3 games and finish 3rd in his own division with the 2nd best offense in school history.
Yeah, I’d say he’s probably relieved.

Relieved? No.
Excited? Hell yeah!

Beating Saban on his field by double digits was no big deal. This is all overblown.

Its Auburn, then UT and LSU, then everyone else

The easy answer was Tennessee but since divisions are now gone, maybe not.

It is, was, and always has been Auburn, and its not close. Played them every year at a time when winning or losing can put you in or keep you out of Atlanta and/or the playoff, plus they recruited against them more than anyone.

Have an upvote, but only because this wasn’t the troll you thought it was…
LSU is not going to stay historically bad on defense (everyone realizes this). Bo Davis will get the DL right. Offense has gotten better every year. Nuss has a gun, still got NFL WRs, lose Daniels mobility but replace that with some scary backs. 2025 class off the charts.
Tigers hot.

Yes, but they were in the same division. We had an extra automatic yearly L every East team didn’t have. Now it probably is Auburn.

What LSU is about to do with Saban gone is going to be your worst nightmare Tuscaloosa. Really looking forward to it.

Life Alert...once he starts doing ads for them instead of AFLAC.

Kirby's Kryptonite was Nick Saban. I can admit it. That's why I say Georgia has the most to gain from Saban's retirement.
If it weren't for Saban, Kirby would have 4 NC's in his 7 years as a head coach instead of just two.

I sat through every home game and many away games of the DuBose, Fran, and Shula eras, so I fricking doubt it.

Maybe they can beat Texas under the new coach

Well, if you haven’t noticed, LSU is playing just a little bit better football than during those eras…. Prepare to be really pissed off baw.

Saban went 2-1 vs UT and DeBoer is 2-0 vs Sark. Nice try anyway, previously exposed corndog alter.
