Due to the current state of college football.
Multiple college football coaches, some of whom are giants in the sport, have spoken to him off the record and have told him in no uncertain terms that they are thinking about retiring unless things change within the next couple of years.

I've largely retired as a fan. I no longer watch games that don't involve my team, and even then I'm not as emotionally invested as I used to be. The sport has gone completely off the rails.

Kirby Smart and Lincoln Riley are two of them

The last giant of the sport retired a couple of weeks ago.

I can bring myself to watch Bama if they are doing good. No longer watch gameday, other teams, a lot of the talking head shows. Too much other bigger things in life and the world going on.

Gameday has become preachy & message based IMO. Bowl season is horrendous now.

Makes sense. Look at who all retired on the basketball side when NIL and recruiting changes happened (Roy Williams, Coach K, Jay Wright).

This is me. I bet we would get along pretty well.

I bet $100 Dabo is one of them.

Will 100% happen.
The current environment of college football is exhausting. You have to recruit your players ever year on top of recruiting in general. Dealing with kids wanting more money or threatening to walk..............frick all that.
Most of these older coaches are all about to be out.

Dabo has been a head coach for a lot longer than the other 2 though.

Hard to blame them. They have generational $ and the sport’s no longer about winning or representing a tradition, just a guaranteed paycheck with a bonus.

But I'm with you. I rarely find myself watching a game that doesn't involve UGA. My Saturdays no longer revolve around CFB. Kids stuff, enjoying the outdoors, being involved with my community, and other things are more important than football.
I used to DVR College Football Live and watch it when I'd get home. I now can't even tell you if it is still on the air.
I stream WJOX at work just as background noise because Spotify and a lot of other things are firewalled.
I'd rather be showing my kids how to do basic car care and maintenance than watching some 18-22 year olds who don't even know I exist play a game that has zero impact on me.
I haven't bought anything with the UGA logo on it since right after the CFP Championship in Indianapolis.

They can’t just get all the talent to themselves now
NIL does need changes but don’t whine about it now that it’s legal.

2019 feels like the last season of real college football. With NIL and such now, it's just not the same.

quote:This is a really good point. Attaining stability is nigh impossible in the current environment. If changes aren't made, the system will be too dynamic and people will lose interest due to there being zero continuity from year to year. Imagine if there were only one year contracts in professional sports and every player was a free agent every year. It would suck.
You have to recruit your players ever year on top of recruiting in general.

NIL didn't really start until 2022.
