We know UW staff are the targets / selections from an offensive staff standpoint… do we have any clue who the defensive staff targets are? Or is it all just speculation right now?

He’s just a position coach. I can live with that if he can recruit. Keep in mind, if CKD isn’t stupid, he’s at least getting input and feedback on defensive candidates from Saban. He’d be a fool not to, especially ones that can recruit. Saban has the scoop on a shite ton of defensive guys.

I am not sure he has great track record for recruiting or developing linebackers. Give that and his history, there has to be a strong recruiter and developer of linebackers out there who wants this job. We definitely need someone who can get the best out our linebacking group.

The WR Coach sure didn’t help when they were here.

They wasted talent

On defense I hope DeBoer goes all-in on a young guy with Alabama ties like Glenn Schuman. Make him THE man, whereas at Uga he hasn’t been that (with the shadow of Kirby and Musschamp hoovering over him). I’m assuming Schuman’s a great area recruiter as well (knowing how important recruiting is for Smart). He could coach up our ILB’s as well.

I think if it were that simple he would already be here. It’s pretty obvious coaching here is not a priority for him at this time.

Not only is Bama his alma mater, but Kirby will DIE in that seat at UGA.

Why not come home and position himself possibly for the big promotion he really wants one day ? HC

Durkin let a kid die on his watch and created such a toxic culture he got fired.

Why would he risk coming here when he knows UGA is going to be good and he’ll be offered a big time HC job in the next few years?
Hell if he waits 3 years and DeBoer doesn’t hire some great recruiters quickly he may be able to come home as the HC.

Durkin was NOT around when the player died. That was on an assistant coach.

I said this in the other thread about TRob and it applies to Schumann.

I don't think DeBoer could or should be comfortable with TRob (or Glenn) having to run the defense completely by himself for the first time without a D head coach or a Co-coordinator, even with a Saban endorsement. It is begging for problems that could harm his tenure.

And this isn't me disliking TRob (or Glenn) if they offered him full DC and either accepted I would jump right on board, I would just have my concerns.

I really think CKD knows he needs an experienced D-Coordinator. I've said I would want to look to some one with a scheme that translates to the NFL well and has a history of putting players in the league.

Do you want to be Co-DC or primary DC?

He’s a great recruiter and is an alum of Bama

Some of y'all worry too much about recruiting and not enough about the actual job of position coach. Yes, you have to recruit, but we've had a recent history of good recruiting and not the greatest development.
