i think there's an argument to be made that only 1 person out there is a better hire and that person wasn't available.
Correct. Kelly has said LSU is his last job.

He's a great hire...for a 5th choice.

That’s the exact same thing Ed Orgereon did at lsu in 2018

Ed lost to Alabama 29-0, in Baton Rouge, in 2018.

They aren't even comparable.

No coach walking the planet is gonna be able to follow Saban and succeed. The laws of physics won't allow it. He'll flop...it'll take them about 10 years and 3 more coaches to get back to where they were. Write that down...

It's a good hire.

But this young man is going to feel pressure like he's never felt before. A guy can work in relative anonymity in Seattle. Tuscaloosa is a whole different game...he won't be able to pop a squat without fans & media discussing it.
But yeah...it's a darn good hire.

We don’t know if he can recruit at the same clip. He took a team of overachieving 3 stars and beat tu (not surprising), but lost to Michigan who had a talent advantage. But if he retains the talent Bama already has, he will do good. It depends if he can keep his stars out of the portal during the 30 day windows. A lot of position coaches are about to be let go.

From the PAC12...very overrated conference

This is such a lame point.

He beat his peer group. What part of that do you not get?

He now has all the benefits and advantages that Bama offers.

It’s a great hire.

I would agree.

Both of DeBoer's losses were to unranked teams.

like i said earlier i don't think Oregon was that good...yeh they beat up on a weak PAC12 schedule and should have beat UW first game this year

I think it's a good hire, especially considering he's following Saban.

When all is said and done, that's all it is.

Hell, I teased LSU about Brian Kelly, but in all honesty he was a very good hire (fake Southern accents and questionable dance routines not withstanding).

While true, there's no way in today's media age that anyone would go into a job like the Alabama HC position not knowing that's part of it.

Crazy that, if he signs on at Alabama, that will have #1, #3, #4, #7, and #9 all in the SEC.

Reminds me of the insane coaching list we had in the SEC in the 2008-2013 years with Saban, Urban, and Spurrier among those coaching at the time.

Well, everyone else said no. This was the best they could do.

He'll be gone in three years, so it's not a big deal anyway. And he'll have saban looking over his shoulder to tell him when he does something stupid.

All is well.

We’re used to it.
It’s mostly Little Bro and the piss colored purple tigers though…you can smell the fear in every post they make.

He may turn out to be an amazing fit at Bama and has had success. Saying he's a homerun or bust is ludicrous at this point.

At the minimum, it's a risky hire. Certainly not a guy on ANYONE'S list of possibile replacement for Saban a week ago. We saw the culture mismatch with Harsin.

It's only a "risky" hire if you think they could have (or should have) gotten Dabo or Smart.

It's about the best they could do. Could totally flop, that's always the case. But not like hiring an FCS coach or something.

He runs a pure Air Raid. That's a boom or bust kinda thing. If you get great QB and WR play and protect that QB it booms. If your QB sucks or has a bad day or you can't protect him, it busts.

One team that I don't think you can run a pure Air Raid against and hope to win is UGA but I don't think they're the only team in the conference that will give a pure Air Raid a very hard time. Washington doesn't like to run the ball. I don't know that that will ever work in the SEC.

That said, I think he's the best available guy out there and a lot better than many could've gotten.
