Alabama will never go down to the level of Tennessee, there is to much talent in the State of Alabama.
Oh baby.

I don't think he will come close to doing that, but it's his perogative to do so.

Then it's definitely gonna be Rees.
Saban is going to be a RINO. Retiring in name only.
That way, it can be his fault, without being "his fault".

No one wants that job if Saban is lurking around.
It’s like Fulmer and Spurrier still having offices on campus and micro managing the new coach.

I’ll point out that Nebraska had the same setup with Tom Osbourne AND the already mentioned Tennessee with Phillip Fulmer. Look at the following 10 years of those two programs after those two “retried” from coaching.
Didn’t Ohio State keep Jim Tressel around for “fund raising” after he resigned?

it was not at the normal Alabama level, but it was not bottoming out either.
Exactly. Still had winning seasons almost every year, with just as many 10+ win seasons as losing seasons. Until the mike years, which were 15+ years after Bryant's retirement. And even the Mike's each managed to have a 10-win season. (Price doesn't count since he never coached even one game)

Gene Stallings did the same thing. The Bahr Jr. is salivating at the thought of the good ole boys running the show again. T Town Menswear will be back to roaming the sidelines on gameday too.

It’s almost like he retired from actual coaching but was hired to be the GM

More likely Coach Saban takes back the reins and unretires. That is a possibility that most of you do not want to think about.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Workaholics like Saban don't know how to stop; however, I think he sees the writing on the wall with NIL and the portal. There will be more parity in the game and he can't stack the deck against the opposition like he used to. This way he gets to assert some measure of control over the program without taking the blame if they have a down season.

Any coach that saw the Reece Davis interview saw him say he could still chew a player out because he would be right around the corner. That has to be in some of these coaches minds. Ego maniacs all.
That would create nothing but division and resentment in the locker room. It would eventually destroy your roster management. Imagine being a 5* Stud player who committed to Bama and then the former coach, chews your arse out, despite not being one of your coaches. You'll be looking to the portal in no time to get away from that kind of nonsense.

Now I see why Dan Lanning turned them down. What coach is going to want to come in and still be in the shadows of Saban and have to answer to him basically when it comes to football. A HC wants full control of his team, not partial control with oversight from Saban.
Could Alabama seriously be letting Saban do, what Fulmer did to UT. “Retire”, but still have a voice in football and heavy influence on the program till he was made AD. Then Fulmer just wrecked UT as an AD till he was forced out again.
I think its more likely a way for Saban to help them recruit when he feels like it, and to try to keep the team together in the meantime. I doubt he is actually that involved.

Whoever they hire is going to be fired in 3 years if they don’t win at least 1 title.

Thus preserving his "legacy."

That is probably a true statement. However the new coach could win a title or two in those three years.

Interesting that you think that a new coach would come in and win a title or two and then up and leave on his own. Only Saban would do something like that.
If a new coach was able to accomplish that, I know for a fact y'all wouldn't fire him.

This is what makes me believe that Rees may be a real possibility.
