I'm really concerned Byrne is going to overthink this.

Kiffin is by far and away the best, most proven coach available that we KNOW for a fact can hold his own in the SEC. He's the obvious successor. His ego can handle following CNS.

Every fanbase loves to hate Kiffin, he would be a perfect fit at Bama as most of us have always loved him and his humor - he just finished a season where his only losses were to Alabama and Georgia. He literally coached circles around James Franklin in their bowl game- a coach most people agree is a top ten coach in college ball.

DeBoer we've never seen in the south, or in a difficult league, or without an elite QB. Look at Dabo without a top 5 pick at QB - hot garbage.

Lanning already openly stating he's staying at Oregon. Dont blame him. Easier path to the playoff, nike money, and probably waiting on a NFL job.

Give Kiffin the job and he's ours for the next 20-30 years. He's already tasted the nfl, and has become a perfect fit in todays semi pro league AKA college football- give him the throne and he's not going anywhere.

How can this not be an obvious slam dunk go get Lane Kiffin right now decision ? Because of something he did nearly ten years ago ? After all the "project" coaches CNS brought in to rehabilitate ? Like Sark ? Nobody would touch Sark util CNS gave him a second chance.

Because he bangs coeds.

If Nick did the same no one would give a damn...it's about winning games.

It is entirely possible that there are members of the board of trustees who would refuse to approve the hire. I'd be fine with Lane. He's done great at Ole Miss. But we don't know how many bridges he may have burned in Tuscaloosa.

Lane getting an offer here probably involves PI work in Oxford.

People talk about how Dabo is no good without a top 5 QB or because he won't use the portal.

I think he sucks because he lost good coordinators that stayed around way longer than usual for winning programs. Once they left, they've gone to shite. There's other factors, sure. But coordinator consistency is apparently underrated

Because there are better options.

Doesn’t play defense. Goes for it on fourth when he doesn’t need to. Goes for two when he doesn’t need to.

I could understand a 15 year old boy wanting Kiffin, but I'm genuinely surprised so many adults think he should be the guy.

The board of trustees had no power during Saban's tenure. Now they see a chance to reassert themselves.

Their hubris will frick this up.

If you actually watch Ole Miss play, I don’t know how you could say Lane Kiffin is a slam dunk.

Or if you need a stat, how about Lane’s 3-20 career record against power five opponents with more than 8 wins? Is that a slam dunk?

I’m not hoping Dabo gets the Bama job, but his season with Kelly Bryant is better than any season Lane Kiffin has had. Hell Dabo’s “hot garbage” record of 30-10 in the past 3 seasons equals Kiffin’s 29-10.

Kiffin's a clown my man. 10-2 at Ole Miss is ok when you beat Miss. St. and LSU, but he got blown out by UGA and Bama because he doesn't care about defense, else he would not have hired our DC

I would hire Dabo over some younger coach, hell he's proven more than Sark, but I will support, somewhat, the new coach, I really dont watch the games anymore, I listen to the radio. I now prefer Basketball for personal reasons, the NIL is a huge turnoff for me, but I would rather have the Wash. coach than Lanning.

Lane Kiffin will not be doing this until he’s 69 or 79 years old.

Other than that, ask yourself a simple question: Do the potential upsides for Kiffin outweigh the potential downsides? Because both exist.

Honestly if you can’t get any of the other coaches like Deboer or Lanning then Kiffin would be my next choice. I DO NOT want Tommy Reese. If it’s Tommy Reese the fans will revolt.

Several folks have said it throughout the comments. The past is the past, regardless of who Kiffin may have pissed off.

Byrne is going to screw this up. Either hire Kiffin now, or regret not doing it for the next 10 years.

This is feeling all too familiar, back to the days after Coach Bryant.......
