I think the most realistic take is: Bama fans knew we would see a small decline, moving on from the GOAT. We all had hopes that the program was set-up well enough that the decline would not be steep if we hired an elite replacement. We are all happy - to - satisfied with this hire because we think DeBoer will do well.
Non-Bama fans thought Saban retiring would plummet us to mediocrity, or worse. Now they are upset they didn't get their wish. This hire could absolutely end up not working out, but right now the grass is much greener in the post-Saban era than our rivals had hoped.
