Predicting the CFP scenarios

The article is behind a paywall, sorry. Mandel predicts what will happen in the 16 possible scenarios that could result from the 4 conference championships (he assumes Michigan will win and thus guarantees they are in). He predicts Georgia will make it in all 8 scenarios in which it wins (obviously) and in 2 scenarios in which it loses. Interestingly, he predicts Alabama will make it in all 8 scenarios in which it wins. His rationale when comparing Alabama to Texas is that Alabama will jump to 3 and thus head to head won't be a consideration.

It's just one guy's opinion, but he is a national sportswriter. Take it for what it's worth.

If Bama and Texas win their CCG:

Bama: 3 top 15 wins, 1 loss to a one-loss team
Texas: 1 top 15 win, 1 loss to a two-loss team

There is no honest debate as to which resume would be better. If Bama clearly has the better resume (they would) you don’t go to the “head to head tiebreaker.”

I've been pretty much saying the same thing here. Almost. I do think Texas beats out Bama if they win impressively and FSU, Washington, Michigan all win. But, it's going to be very debatable. There's more than just head to head to look at.

That guy sucks balls.

Basically it's simple.....

Pac 12 and B1G IDMAS

Root for Louisville and Alabama unless you are a Georgia or FSU fan

It is a consideration but his logic is Alabama defeating UGA would trump the head to head

The big 12 is officially the weakest it’s ever been in its history this year, no one should be shocked if TU gets left out

This is just Mandel's opinion but I’m sure there are a lot of people on the committee that do see it like him.

Simply put: there are 3 potential 12-1 Conference Champions after next weekend and these would be their resumes before you consider anything else:

3-1 Vs Top 15
4-1 Vs Top 25

1-1 Vs Top 15
2-1 Vs Top 25

1-1 Vs Top 15
1-1 Vs Top 25

My personal opinion is that Texas goes but that’s probably because I’ve never loved to whole playoff idea.

However, if you have a playoff where you’re supposedly trying to get the 4 teams that have shown they’re the best over a complete season a strong argument can be made for the 12-1 team with the most Top15/25 wins.
