Dude went to high school in rural Texas on the New Mexico border. As far as small town America goes Starkville is solid.

At the end of the day State is a job where you have to take risks with any hire. We can’t hire a slam dunk, sure to succeed, sitting head coach. The candidate pool is always going to be active/former P5 head coaches with baggage, a rising P5 coordinator, or a G5 head coach.
State wanted a guy that would fix the offense and get fans excited. For whatever reason, in this cycle most of the HC’s interested in this job were defensive guys (Sumrall, Odom, etc).
There are a lot of parallels to Lebby and 2008 Dan Mullen. I think the hope is that Lebby gives State a similar jolt of energy.

Yep, if given a choice between Starkville and Andrews, TX...
You gotta go with Starkville.
Starkville has always struck me as one of the few college towns that is more of an "anytown, USA". Coming from Oklahoma it reminds me of some of the places in Oklahoma that have regional state Universities. Except Starkville has a major state University.

Was that KJ in the crowd? He got there quick!
(Sorry if someone already pointed it out. I’m not reading all that)

Something strange I noticed. Jeff Lebby has not sent one snippet of thanks to OU Admin, Brent Venables or the players. Its like he left and never had any ties to OU. That will sour the good luck many fans have wished on him. I think its always customary to do so. And it will be used against him I’m sure.
I think he’ll do fine it just is a matter of players. No idea how full the cupboard is but portal helps teams build faster nowadays. Just foumd it odd he has not said any thanks yet, this was not a last minute deal and most coaches have worked up their goodbye letters.
If I missed it please post for me.

I’m sure he couldn’t wait to leave Norman… had to accept!

The way you guys slapped him around and muzzled him up over him inviting his father-in-law to the sidelines may have something to do with that. He was a bit defiant in explaining Briles' presence and that was immediately followed by both Castiglione and Venables saying it was a bad thing.
The OKC media has hit him pretty good as well. They just penned this editorial saying the MSU hire bailed the Sooner program out of mistake hire.

By hiring Lebby, an OU alum, the Bulldogs rid the Sooners of a hire Brent Venables should never have made. That OU’s administration should’ve never OK’d. There’s a lesson to be learned. Stay away from the Art Briles coaching tree. Stay away from the Art Briles family tree. Go find another tree, preferably one that’s not rotting.

Regardless, BV gave him a chance with a big program. AD had to sign off on it. He owes them a thanks because he broke the terms of their agreement having him on the field. Not a good look to leave like a jilted girlfriend after all they did for him. It was his actions that forced a reaction. Admin did not want local press to have anything to tie to past but he served it up on a platter.
I’m just surprised he can’t do the honorable thimg and take the high road and put it to bed. A simple thanks would have done wonders. Imagine how its can be used in future recruiting when both schools go after same recrit and OU can point to his character in how he handles things which he might do to them.
Just saying, a simple thanks would have gone a long way. He will face pressure at some point at MS too, and how will he handle it? Riley banned a reporter and boy did that backfire on him. Best to not burn bridges if you don’t have to.

Agreed on all points.

Lebby doesn't owe OU fans anything. I'd venture a guess that fans have no idea of any communications between Lebby and Venables/administration. Not a single recruit is going to decide between OU and MSU based on Lebby not publicly thanking OU. That's absurd. OU hired him to do a job and paid him. Lebby did his job. Then he took a different job with a better title and higher pay.

Not much different than what Rich Rod did to Bama. Of course, Bama fell arse-backwards into replacing him with the best coach in history, so I guess Rich Rod really trolled the rest of the SEC.
He never even visited the campus though. But he did claim a few years ago he wish he would've taken the Alabama job over Michigan because it would've been a better fit for him.
Lol nah fam, if you couldn't win at Michigan, you definitely would've shite the bed at Bama.

You do realize there are these things called airplanes? Leach used to fly to his place in Key West straight from Golden Triangle airport in about 4 hours.
Because all coaches have PJs. Him flying out so often proves the point anyway.

While Norman kinda sucks, you do realize it's essentially a suburb of OKC. And an easy 3 hour trip to Dallas. I mean what the hell is around Starkville?
What head coach is driving 3 hours to go to a city? What head coach even goes into the city they live in? They live outside of it and only go to campus.

What does Tuscaloosa have that a head coach would go to? Saban probably doesn't even live in town. You think Saban has ever gone to Birmingham for anything other than work?
Tuscaloosa? Baton Rouge? College Station? Knoxville? SEC fans are crazy if you think your cities are any attraction to college head coaches.
They work crazy long hours and go home.
