Are the top rated 5 star recruits really the best investment?

Some of the better teams have contacts with HS coaches and really can prepare a good kid to become a worthy investment....at athletics.....or just being a good man.

Are the quantity of HS evaluators UGA and Kirby have working to evaluate HS players make them better than the recruiting magazine..sites...or for profit sites?

Does Alabama have better judgement, or information on HS players than College's with less staff evaluators?

Should Dabo try to get a kid that he didn't recruit very much if he becomes a great player at a lesser school?

With NIL and Transfer rules I'd say recruiting good players goes beyond HS and into smaller colleges.

Or even bigger colleges if the NIL is large enough.

In my mind, offers mean more than stars. If a player has offers from UGA, Bama, OSU and a couple of other good schools, he's a highly valued recruit, regardless of the number of stars. If he's missing some of those as a 5-star, I'm not sure I buy the ranking.

I agree having an offer from LSU, Ohio St, and Georgia says a lot about the kid especially if they are a 3 or low 4 star but what we don't know is if that is a commitable offer or not. For Example, PJ Woodland (LSU CB commit) is a 3 star commit with an impressive offer list but let's say he tells Florida St he wants to commit will the Noles accept his commitment. Stars do matter but definitely not the main thing we should look at

Is Caleb Downs or Dallas Turner worth it?

Because I think Malaki Starks and Amarius Mims are with it.

LSU fans twisted themselves into pretzels trying to explain replacing 4 and 5 star recruits with 3 star recruits.

It's a fair question and one that has no objective answer. Probably about 50% of the 5* players pan out. High 3* & 4* guys fail at a higher rate overall, but there are WAY more 3-4* kids in play.

Sometimes I prefer the 4* kids as they still have that hunger whereas some of the 5s have reached the pinnacle...

LSU has had bad luck with a lot of 5* players not panning out over the years. Or getting one solid year of production and watching them leave early or get injured.

Burden was a hell of an investment for Mizzou. Whereas Wingos dad wants to see more money and we seem to want to use that money for 2 mid 4 stars.

The thing about 5 star players is even if they aren't a great football player, they are still almost always extremely athletic. Just having a bigger, stronger, faster team is an advantage in itself.

Recruiting rankings aren't perfect, but the vast majority of the time teams that recruit really well for 3-4 years in a row are the ones who win championships. If you broke teams down by how big the offer sheets of each player on the rosters was, you'd see Bama, Georgia, Ohio St at the top.

So has Auburn. The only one in recent memory that was a true stud from day 1 was Derrick Brown.

There have been more "busts" at AU than hits as 5 stars. Guys like Calvin Ashley, Byron Cowart, Roc Thomas, Jovon Robinson, and Michael Dyer all flopped and transferred out or were kicked off the team.

Not all 5* are the same; The transition of some skill players from HS to college is much easier than OL. Big & mean HS thugs may have the ratings based on overpowering inferior talent, but if you don't have good footwork and balance, P5 opponents will clean your clock.

In the last 3 years, there have been 5* and high 4* players that Texas would not sign, including a 2024 Texas top 5 kid.

Talent isn't the issue. They may have been offered by Texas early in the process, or even committed at one point, but at the end, Texas would not take them.

Everybody says character matters; consider the source.
