I live in Yulee. I work in Jax. The homeless population is def getting worse but Shahid Khan ( the billionaire owner of the Jaguars) is going to run them off of the river. There are a lot of sports bars like gators dockside here in Nassau. On the way to the stadium. River City has Bostons. As a Savannah boy living in Fla., I have developed hookups with the city to get as many tix and parking passes I want so I have a vested interest in keeping it there.

There are a lot of influential fans and donors I think that want it to stay in Jacksonville. It seems to have worked in our favor from player and fan motivation. Gator fans don't seem as passionate about the game in Jax any more of course us beating them doesn't help. Downtown Jax seems like a lost cause but maybe the Jaguars owner can clean it up. I'm surprised he hasn't demanded a new stadium in a better part of town.

This might be a dumb question but if he wants to leave Jax why are they about to spend a frickton of money to massively upgrade the stadium?

I don’t think he wants to leave Jacksonville. I think he’s using leverage to get help paying for the almost $2B in renovations to the stadium and surrounding area. That’s what I heard at least

yah, I saw the article below. I wonder what vision they have for downtown Jacksonville? It just looked too far gone when I was there last. I'm surprised he didn't just leave for somewhere like Orlando.

No he doesn't. He is about to pump a metric shitload of money into a Town Center kind of area in Jax Beach.

He also is buying up the hood areas around the stadium. He is instrumental in getting a Four Seasons. Khan’s had a vision for the jail property and the surrounding properties that he’s played the long game very well with.

I am curious to see what the redevelopment will look like. The whole downtown area was just in such bad shape last visit. Savannah had a similar problem in the 70's and redeveloped river street. I guess the problem is the political issue where you are displacing lower income people, but they will likely just locate further in another direction.

There are rumors the new stadium may only be 40 to 50 thousand seating capacity. I don't think there is any way the game stays there if that is the case.

lol

I'm not laughing at you specifically, but am curious where a rumor like that would even start. For reference vandy's stadium seats just a hair under 40K. I simply can't imagine that Jacksonville, or any NFL stadium, would have the equivalent of vandy-level seating no matter how many bells and whistles are slapped on or around them.

Exactly and any new NFL facility will also want to host other big time events
(CFB playoffs,Super Bowls, etc) and you simply can't do that with a 40k venue.
