And I though his buyout was 18 million. Field of 68 is still saying that.

But it's 12. It's 4.5 million a year and 12.

Only an idiot would think Kentucky wouldn't be back on top with Oats.

In retrospect, would should have given him a bigger raise with a much bigger buyout.

This is why it doesn't pay to invest in Bama Basketball.

Do you think we wouldn’t match?

Salary won’t be why he leaves

I'm not saying it's money. It'll be the fact that UK is UK.
Basketball is everything there.

Staying at BAMA for basketball when offered the UK job would be like staying at TCU for football if offered the BAMA job. You think Sonny Dykes would've turned BAMA down if we'd offered him after his natty run? He wouldn't have even packed his shite. He would've just bought all new shite when he got to Tuscaloosa. And he's from Texas.

They wanted him to walk. But if you think Kentucky will give him $10 mil a yr, more than Hurley makes than I’m willing to make a serious bet on that.

I’ll bet $1k on this. No way Kentucky pays him $10 mil a yr

His buyout is 18 and his salary is 5.0. You’re citing the old contract. His new contract ramps up to 7.5M by 2030, 500K bump a year

His AAV is 6.25M, Calipari’s was 8.625M. It’s not a huge stretch from what we’re paying him

Right. UK was ok with letting a HOF Coach walk to another team in their own conference.

My prediction is UK makes a call to Hurley and is turned down, then offers Nate 7 or 8. Nate is in Lexington by the end of the week.

Then hopefully we grab Hodgson.

Do you remember the coaching searches pre Saban? We were turned down by much worse coaches than Dykes. I think the damned Wake Forest coach told us no.

That coaching search was when we were about 8 years removed from a National Championship and that’s about how long it’s been for Kentucky. It’s apples and oranges, but Alabama basketball is a much better program than TCU football.

UK wouldn't give Oats another $1.5m to come win titles at UK?

You've lost your mind if you don't think so.

Well if they got all this money and power over the basketball universe like you said why didn’t they keep him?

They actually were, per Kentucky reports. He expressed interest in Ohio State privately and the AD/Cal have an incredibly poor relationship

He’s been pretty bad in the tourney the past five years

My point is Alabama isn’t afraid to spend 2M a year if it’s going to cost them 20M+ to lose him and have someone like AJ coach instead

We’re not going to lose a bidding war with Kentucky over 1.5M, lol. Especially when we’re trying to turn the basketball program into a juggernaut. I highly doubt we lose him to a bidding war

I could see that happening, but not for no $10 mill a yr.

The fans were pretty much calling for the AD’s head just about a week ago when he said Cal was returning. Cal took a pay cut to go to a job in a worse position to compete short term. You might call it a mutual parting of ways.

Because he's 63 and slipping. It happens. BAMA wouldn't have let him walk. Bet your $1000 on that playboy.
You start slipping at UK and they show you the door.

We are not going to hire Hodgson. This isn’t a good old boy program under Byrne. They’ll go national and poach someone with a strong coaching resume if they have to

It isn't about money. It's about jewelry at this point.
BAMA may never win a title with Oats.
UK is all but a guarantee.
