We're not going to be able to hire a coach with more experience than Pittman. I realize that many so called experts on the message boards think otherwise...but deep down you know better.
I suspect Pittman is done anyway after taking all the social media abuse.
Fan expectations will need to lower (think Kentucky 7-8 years ago), then we can hire an average coach and slowly...very slowly rebuild a program to mediocrity.
If...no when...college football realigns to a system similar to soccer leagues in Europe...and that's coming fast...then we'll be relegated to 3rd tier league play.
I doubt anyone thinks that we're suddenly going to resurrect a program given the schedule we have, the recruiting base we don't have and the impatient fan base. Combine that with OU and Texas moving into the SEC.
Its bleak...and that's reality.

More offensive line coaching experience? True
More head coaching experience? You serious?
Pittman's game management skills are sorely lacking. This comes from being a career coordinator with no HC experience. He stablized the program but he had the benefit of Treylon Burks and super seniors to cover his inadequacies. It's time for a change whether you think Arkansas can do "better" or not.

How many times in history did we have a homerun hire in football?
History is a strong indicator of future results. When I took the time to look over our SEC historical numbers from top to bottom... the trend is strong.

I was on board with this for Sam, but expectations went up when he shook us down for a big raise.
All I want is a coach that consistently puts us in positions to win. Right now, we have a coach that consistently puts us in positions to lose.

Thinking we’re going to hire someone like Dan Lanning or Kalen DeBoer is an absolute waste of time as those will never happen. That doesn’t mean we can’t grab an up-and-coming name and hit a home run with them like Mullen at State or Stoops at Kentucky. It’s a risk but I’d rather have that than some mid level retread coach with a formerly big name. The caveat being we hire a universally agreed up-and-coming name and not someone we convince ourselves is up-and-coming like Morris.

I don’t think we will get Lanning, I don’t think we will get anyone, because Pittman will still be our coach next year.

Yes I would agree with that as well unless he decides to retire on his own.

Unless he gets a golden handcuff retirement, he isn’t doing that.

Hat’s off to Kentucky for having patience with stoops. Looking at his early record there he probably wouldn’t have lasted here.

I mean we're looking at 3-9 this year.
Worst case what happens? We hire a worse coach who goes 2-10 in this 4th year

Arkansas began the season ranked 19th and was a second half away from going 5-7.

quote:This is the only line of thinking that has kept me from full on hopping on the fire Pittman bandwagon. As it stands I'm neutral and wouldn't care either way, but I'm done defending the guy. That said I wouldn't tear my house up if he got another year or two to let Enos actually bring up his QB and try to get more of a fit from a personnel standpoint.

Pittman's done a lot to erode the faith he'd earned but it's also true that not every coach's trend is a steady direction one way or the other. I'm just not sure Kentucky was dealing with the same types of issues we are during those early struggles under Stoops. You could always see they were headed in the right direction, IMO. It doesn't feel that way with us anymore. Feels like Pittman started hotter than expected in year 1 then grabbed a lot of momentum in year 2, which has sense failed to be capitalized on to the point that it's all just about run out.

They gave Stoops plenty of time because they are a basketball school and never really cared for football.
He has to deal with that negative stigma and has won despite it.

So just like Arkansas. No coach worth a damn is going to sabotage his career by coming to Arkansas. We’ve got dumb and emotional fans that want their pound of flesh every time they get their feelings hurt. We’ll get a retread like Muschamp and the cycle will repeat itself, it is what it is.

Arkansas allowed an OL coach to become a head coach and went 9-4 in his second year.
He had no idea what he was doing then and still doesn't now.
Any coach worth a shite that wants to become a head coach in the SEC will do so and if that has to be poor little Arkansas then so be it.
Giving up it isn't an option in this conference and if so then forever be the Vandy of the West minus the academics.
