Anybody that thinks coaches won’t come here because of unrealistic expectations

Isn’t paying attention. Florida is about ready to move on from Napier after just 2 years, even though they’re vastly ahead of where we are. Even lsu fans are getting tired of Kelly in year 2 and he just won the west! We are a very mild fan base compared to most groups who want to win. Firing Pittman this year would not scare anyone off who would be good at the job

Florida and LSU have the resources to have those expectations. Coaches go there knowing they can win national championships if they’re good enough.
I don’t think we have unrealistic expectations though.

I think this question goes to what are the expectations. Pittman only lost my support when it became clear we weren't gonna be good enough to make a bowl in year 4. I don't think above .500 and bowl eligibility is an extreme set of expectations....

This. 6 to 9 wins a year, with a shot at competing for more once every several years, should not be too lofty.

Until the UofA opens up the checkbook expect a BLJ hire.

We don't have a desirable Job. We have a weak recruiting footprint, routinely the toughest schedule in the nation, and a passionate fanbase that expects to win.
The notion that someone would come here because they want a challenge is delusional. None of us would take a harder job over an easy job with all other things being equal.
That means we have to overpay to get someone decent. HY's MO is the opposite of that. That leaves unproven up and comers and guys with baggage. We could certainly end up with worse that Pittman but I think everyone is ready to roll the dice.

If it’s unrealistic to want to watch games on Saturday and believe:
1) you have a chance or are going to win
2) not think you are out going to be our coached
3) mentally fragile and shoot yourself in the foot over and over, which inevitably causes losses.
4) you don’t want to take your foot off the gas and end up losing
Then I have unrealistic expectations, but those are the same expectations I have for Basketball and baseball and those coaches seem to meet and exceed them.

This. And not look inept. I know bad plays happen but when it’s half the game of, “what the frick are they doing?”
That’s too much for me. I also don’t feel like it’s too lofty to make it to Atlanta every 5 yearsish

And that will get your AD fired.
Everyone acts like they aren’t getting paid to do a job, they aren’t a small town pastor doing it out the kindness of their hearts. They are all making millions a year to delivery a product worthy of our money.

We lose three games with new coaches with players trying to gel in the new system and our fans are able to determine with 100% accuracy that we won’t improve enough throughout this season to reach a bowl. What happened in 2015 apparently should be ignored because it would ruin a good pity party.
Hoping one of you can give me the lottery #’s as well

Agreed. W/L are only a part of the equation. I’m tired of watching us rack up 100+ yards in penalties and look completely inept in certain positions.
We consistently do things to ourselves that get us beat. That’s the frustrating part and 100% on coaching.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about "unrealistic" expectations. We are an SEC school with a crap ton of money and backing. Time to put your money where your mouth is and give this program the shot in the arm it deserves. We have seen the formula to win here over time.... making excuses for why we aren't now is the cowards way out.
Go get someone who is young and hungry and innovative and watch what happens.
..... now would be as good a time as any to remind everyone I wanted Mike Norvell...........
guess who fared better than we did since FSU hired him....

This is fricking hilarious and sad at the same time.
Either naivety or an amazing lack of self-image continues to let this notion proliferate.
What do you think the average D-1 coaching salary is, then where do you think Arkansas compares to that?
What if any benefits are there to being an SEC head coach beyond the considerable salary that might not be available at non-SEC programs?
C'mon people. This is the mindset a psychologist has a field day with.

Been a hog fan for a mighty long time... Look at our history and tell me that we aren't just that in the SEC... Losers...
We have lost more than we have won, and by definition... Well?
Our Recruiting area is crap, our history in this conference is crap, our schedule is ruthless, add to that Tx and OU and ... well?
Why would a well known, successful coach want to risk their resume with such man? Why would a decent up and comer not wait out a program with a better recruiting footprint, better history, better media attention. Just look up the media concerning Arkansas football in the past 20 years overall. One caught lightening in a bottle on time with Petrino and it was amazing how that transpired. He was in desperate need of getting out of where he was. Period!
I view our Football program as fan who has purchased season tix for 20 plus years and definitely knows it's history. Our bads definitely out number our goods in this exercise of futility.
Pittman isn't as bad as some are promoting... He isn't as good as others promote. He is a mediocre coach who is well liked personally. Between Bert, Smile, and Chad... where does he rank, because these are our last three to consider overall.
I want a change at HC, I am there. But I would ask for folks to put their fandom down for a brief minute and be real about our possibilities/
Scott Frost anybody?
Trailer?
Kansas Coaches?
BLJ? Good Lord No! He pouted and made a power move that lost last time.
Who? At least the coaching search threads are fun, we ought to know, we have had plenty the last few years

sec record currently... 100/152
quick count... may be barely off, but the point is made.
We have never truly been considered competitive in the SEC overall. Sure, a year or two here and there... but...

If we improve to make a bowl I'll gladly eat crow. I definitely think we can improve and win a few more games.... I just don't see 3 more sure wins. FIU miss state and we gotta win one we shouldn't too...that's a big ask.

So swing big. If we strike out where will we be.......the same place we are every 4 years.
