Clemson and FSU to the SEC?

Apparently, there are serious rumblings that Clemson (and FSU) are leaving the ACC in 2024. I knew FSU was publicly voicing their desire to leave and apparently, Clemson has been quietly trying to work out a way to leave.
I know there is a gigantic penalty to leave but the story I saw (FWIW) on Youtube is Clemson may be working out some kind of deal with ESPN to get the ACC to let them go at a reduced rate. (Sorry, no link)
IF and that's a big IF that happens, I expect FSU to leave to with both coming to the SEC. Then again, it could be complete wishful thinking on their part to be able to leave early.

I think UNC is coming with them. I think the SEC really wants UNC.

So what is the endgame with all this expansion? Obviously it's about getting more money but at this rate we are gonna be at 20+ teams very soon

UNC is the big fish in the game. Clemson and FSU are the tag alongs.

The networks run CFB. It doesn’t really matter what the SEC wants.
If ESPN wants Clemson and Florida State in the SEC, it’ll happen. I doubt that’s the case because ESPN owns the ACC at a pretty good deal at the moment.

Lol, they’re not getting out. Both of them are blowing major smoke out of their arse
There is no contractual out, if there was both of them would’ve enacted it already. There is no legal challenge out either, nor is there any incentive for the ACC to buy them out fifteen years ahead of the grant of rights expiration (which would cost the school over a billion each in the first place).
They’re locked in for a while and the recent expansion vote made that even more clear. Poaching ACC schools is off the table for the next decade.

I'd rather go get North Carolina and Notre Dame than Florida State and Clemson.

I think the SEC should add Duke, NC. Clemson make sense too. FSU doesn’t offer much imo

ESPN is going to make this work because if they don’t the BIG10/FOX will. Clemson, FSU, and UNC will be in the SEC 2024

It’s not about geography. It’s about tv ratings

More money for the people who run college football.

The most "makes sense" schools are in order:
1. UNC
2. FSU
3. UVa
4. Duke
5. Clemson
6. VA. Tech
1. UNC
2. FSU
3. UVa
4. Duke
5. Clemson
6. VA. Tech

This. FSU is probably the biggest TV draw in the ACC.
I'd take UNC and FSU.

FSU is a football draw and an academic powerhouse (35th nationally) that is in the middle of the conference geographically and is a good fit culturally with natural rivals already in the conference.
Clemson is the same.
UNC is less of a cultural fit and brings less in media rights, but with basketball, elite academics and brand recognition seems a good eastern version of Texas that cements the state of NC as SEC territory.
UVA / VA Tech is less clear as a fit because UVA isn’t really a football media rights draw and is a questionable fit culturally, but would be a nice complement to UNC and would be right there with UNC and Vandy as the best academic school in the SEC.
I actually think Beamer era Va Tech would be the better add for the SEC culturally, but they are really lost in the woods football wise and I’m not sure they have quite the same media draw they once did.

ESPN will definitely sell out the ACC to keep FSU and Clemson in their thrall.

UVA is a TERRIBLE fit for the SEC. I worked in Charlottesville, AKA "The People's Republic of Charlottesville" AKA "The University of New Jersey at Charlottesville" years ago. It's a town full of woke lunatics and alums from the Viet Nam era who still think it's 1970 and look like Willie Nelson.
Yes, it's a really good school but isn't much of a TV draw for football. Good basketball, baseball.
VT culturally would be a better fit but holy cow, they've driven their football program over a cliff. I'd have to pass on them.

Virginia would have to expand the program enormously to even be relevant. It’s a great place ( in spite of the folks who live there), just beautiful but while they have the means they just don’t care enough about football. Tech, on the other hand, could be a monster but they choose to continually shite the bed.
