Kentucky fans - tell us about Eric Wolford

If there are any Kentucky fans on here, tell us about Wolford as OL coach at Kentucky. When Bama hired him I was excited because I thought he did a great job at Kentucky. But he's worse than Doug Marone was in 2021. I can't believe an OL can be this bad. What's the deal with him?

It’s the players. No development at Bama.

That's why I was asking about Wolford. It's obviously a coaching issue. No way all those 4 and 5 star OL are that bad. The only good OL we have is RT

We are glad to get rid of him. He never developed our players and left us in a shitty situation last year when he left. He can recruit, but a shitty developer.

He was here one season. He took over from probably the best ever at the position at Kentucky - John Schlarman. He seemed to maintain the standard for that one season, but he just wasn't here long enough to evaluate.
I can tell you this, Kentucky has yet to find anyone that can fill that position as well as John Schlarman. And they may never. He was good. Real good.

Ask Freddy Maggard his opinion on Wolford…it’s not a good one!

I didn't know he was only there one season. It all makes sense now. Man this is depressing. I thought he was a good OL coach and that there must be some other reason why the OL has been terrible since he got here. Now I know for sure this season is gonna be terrible.

He inherited an offense line from Schlarman that was loaded and now in the NFL. He never got the younger guys in the rotation to get experience and develop like Schlarman…and it showed last season!

Now I am trying to remember if we liked him at SC. I cant remember

As others have said, we had absolutely no development under him and that group digressed pretty bad. As said, it was only one year and he had big, big shoes to fill so hard to tell if it would’ve improved.
That said, he also left Kentucky in the shittiest way possible. He was out on an OL recruiting visit, interviewed with Alabama (didn’t tell anyone that he was), never returned to Lexington, and come to find out he was recruiting the OL for Bama and not Kentucky. That says a lot to me about his character. Other position coaches have left for other programs, Bama included, and was upfront about it with Stoops and Co.

quote:He's trash IMO. He inherited John Schlarmans offensive line at Kentucky and there was a drop off. He stopped doing the offensive line rotation etc so the next years line was green and inexperienced AF. Got the impression he was a recruiter not a teacher.

To make it all worse he got his Alabama offer while he was in the middle of in home recruiting visit for Kentucky and immediately flipped.

You are unlikely to find many Kentucky fans with a positive take on Wolford.

I’m not sure our coaching staff would piss on him if he was on fire either. Stoops was pissed about that departure.

He was not good at developing players. Congrats.

Nah, not really. As others have said, he can recruit but not much in the way of development.
I've seen more development under Teasley so far than I did under Wolford.

Googled him to find where he is coaching now. Did not realize he died. Damn, that sucks. too young

A great OL coach is the most underrated role in football, and it’s more crucial now than ever.

It was pretty heartbreaking. He continued coaching through his chemotherapy/treatment and passed after we broke our streak against Tennessee in Neyland. I got the opportunity to meet him when he was recruiting a kid I worked with. He found out I was a big UK fan working across the street from UofL and on his return visit brought me some more stuff to hang up in my old office. Super sweet guy.
ESPN did a really nice video on him after he passed.

I was assured that this was all sour grapes.
As said above: good recruiter, but a terrible developer.
