Alabama baseball fell to UAB, 5-2, on Tuesday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The midweek result moved the 12th-ranked Crimson Tide 24-13 overall.
The Blazers scored out of the gate, plating a pair in the first. Alabama answered with solo homers from Gage Miller and Justin Lebron to knot it up at 2-2 after one full. Both teams would remain scoreless until the fifth when UAB plated two more before adding an insurance run in the eighth for the 5-2 advantage, the eventual final.
Collin Patterson (2-1) picked up the win for the Blazers with 3.0 scoreless relief frames while John Luke Martin earned his first save of the year, working the final 2.0 innings. The loss went to Jansen Kenty (0-1).
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"The focus clearly wasn't good enough at the beginning of the game. I don't think it was an energy or lackadaisical thing, but our focus just clearly wasn't good enough on the defensive end tonight. We responded quick, which was great, but as soon as (UAB) went to the bullpen they stymied us all day."

Are we trying to lose to all of the in-state teams?

Is this to keep Hess on Friday?

Everybody but Auburn (hopefully).

Crappy game but it's the middle of an insane grind for them schedule wise. A little understandable to come out flat.

We’ve got Samford in Tuscaloosa next week and are heading to Troy two weeks after that - so we’ll find out soon enough.

No inside information here, but our next two SEC series are Thursday/Friday/Saturday so I’m guessing it will be like this for the next two weeks. There has been (fan) speculation about moving Farone to the series starter since he’s been the best, most consistent pitcher so far. This would lend itself to making the change when we go back to Friday/Saturday/Sunday series in a few weeks.

Any word on Matthew and if he’ll be back this series?

I think that’s it also . Move Farone , who has pitched much better, to hopefully keep us in the Friday night games matched against the opponents ace and give Hess a chance at their #2. Hopefully , we would typically put up more runs on Saturday and give Hess some confidence too. We need him badly down the stretch .

I have to wonder if Vaughn will be on the hot seat next season. Never seen such HORRIBLE pitching by a Bama team.

Heck no. We got us a coach that I think is going to be really good . Let him get some players in first before you fire him Transfers and injuries have taken its toll. We good

Are you trolling or just a FOG?
The team just took 2 out of 3 from the #1 team in the country and have been ranked in the Top20 for most of the year…his FIRST year.

I hope he was joking. We are going to need starting pitchers out of the portal for next year, but we should get two pitchers back from injury. One was a starter. Not up to date on the roster so I am not sure who all is eligible to come back.
