Officiating

This is not a post for pity or insinuating a conspiracy against us, but it seems as if officials have been tight on us in big games ever since the SEC championship against Georgia. Georgia mugged our receivers in both games. Tennessee almost beheaded Bryce with no targeting call and I refuse to speak on the rest of their no calls in that game.
Saturday Xavier Worthy got way with a false start when he was lined up at running back. He literally almost fell out of his stance. He caught a fiery yard pass on that play. Texas also held our edge rushers numerous times. What are y’all’s thoughts?

The stats back up a significant discrepancy in fsvor of Alabama’s opponents with repsect to penatlies going back years. Almost felt like a trying to even the playing field type thing. We used to be good enough to overcome it. We arent anymore.

I agree. We can count on two hands that holding has been called on our opponents in the past three years.

I have two questions about officiating
1. what's the point in calling interference on a pass that nobody could catch? Arnold's second PI, i never even saw the ball hit the ground
2. how does calling holding on the punt receiving team benefit the punting team if the ball is never fielded? It's not like holding the gunners coming down field prevents them from making the tackle

The constant bitching from the other sec teams about the so-called bama favoritism by the refs doesn’t help matters. It’s like the refs are looking for bama penalties but then ignore the same type infraction by our opponents, especially in the areas of OL holding and the defensive secondary.

Not sure if the problem is with officiating or the team itself, but how many times has Alabama had 10+ penalties in a game over the past three years? Something has to change.

I'm still steamed about that game with Clemson that they won with a pick play, where they ran over 100 offensive plays with maybe one penalty.
Against that defense. No way they were not holding.

Add the officials to the list of people CNS doesnt chew anymore.

He used to work them hard. Seems like he’s lately taken the approach that doing so would send the message to the team that it’s ok to worry about external factors and not just focus on the next play.

Jesus next y’all will start blaming the cheerleaders for not cheering loud enough.
Our OL held Texas all night. There’s missed calls both ways. Sometimes it benefits you and sometimes it benefits them.

Dude it’s not just about the Texas game. This is a pattern that dates back about five years. It’s evident at this point that something isn’t right with the way they officiate our games. I personally think people are tired of Alabama.

I think there’s always been a bias simply because the numbers do back it up. Don’t think there’s a grand conspiracy or anything though. That said, we clearly aren’t helping matters with sloppy, undisciplined play.

It's even worse because they had already run a pick play earlier in the half and the defensive backs had asked the officials to watch for it. If that had benefitted Alabama rather than hurt them, it would be regarded as one of the most scandalous no calls in college football history.

7 times in 30 games since the start of 2021.
2023
Texas - 10
2022
@Texas - 15
@Arkansas - 10
@Tennessee - 17
Auburn - 11
2021
@Florida - 11
@Auburn 11
Overall, since 2021 Bama is averaging 10 penalties a game on the road.

Our opponent's penalties going back to the early CNS years have been some of the lowest in the nation.

I looked into it and there were a couple games these past few years with 9 as well, so it really is awful.

Or it is a lack of discipline on our part as players and a staff.

I agree with you. I refuse to bitch about refs. We make too many damn mistakes.

Exactly. People bitching at the refs sound like barners and corndogs.
I do think the Tennessee game was BS in spots but we still dug our own grave.

Deshaun Watson even admitted that the name of the play has pick in it LOL
