I skimmed it. This is pretty good stuff, that took a long time to do. I’ll have to read through it after work. He really has great writing as well. This made me chuckle:

At the start of the second quarter, Robby Ashford made his first appearance, because the offense was getting into too much of a rhythm and we had to put a stop to that.

Sounds like alot of growing pains all around. Besides penalties and fumbles, those are non excusable. Hopefully they can get it figured out enough before the A@M game to be competitive.

This is awesome... How does he get the wide? Is that an ESPN.com option? Bookmarked. His offensive analysis is spot on.

Seeing the wide is telling. I can promise you we're going to play better secondaries that Cal... and after watching that, I wouldn't be afraid to leave a half decent DB on an island against our outside receivers.
quote:

If your receivers can’t win one-on-ones, it’s very hard to run vertical choice, because those concepts are premised on beating the opposing DB deep.

On Robby's usage.
quote:

While Robby was effective in the red zone last week, bringing him in like this is too predictable, because the defense knows the QB run is coming.

I don't understand the point in the 2nd GIF. The claim is that Thorne has to give to RB because it's man coverage, but yet there's 2 WR's wide open short on the left side. Make a good fake, take 2 steps, throw and easy peasy 10 yd gain.

I don't think a QB can afford to run much between fake and throw. Reason being is the line cant block down the field.

quote:

want to add that this is also bad play design; as the telestrator so helpfully notes, the DB lined up over the inside receiver on the unbalanced side of the line (who is ineligible to receive a pass) and just chases down the play.

Anybody here understand football enough where they can see an "ineligible receiver?" I cannot but I think I would understand the difficulties more often if I could.

I would hate to meet the person whose life is sad enough that they'd pretend to be me.
