The new enrollment cap is 34,000, although they turned away around 1,000 qualified applicants this fall who wanted to enroll due to no space.
enrollment record
On-campus housing is maxed out and only available to freshmen.
Imagine how big we'd be if we were ever good at sports....

Old man posting here but it’s still staggering to me that we’re this big now when it was 12k undergrad and 15k total when I was a freshman in ‘99. The campus seemed overcrowded and parking was near impossible back then. It must be insane on a school day now.

I went to south Fayetteville for the first time in a while and was blown away by the new apartments built on Razorback road south of Chick-fil-A. There has to be 5k more students living in the area of the baseball stadium than there was when I was in school just 10 years ago.

There is literally nowhere to park, even for faculty/staff if you get there later in the day. Students almost have to ride transit to get to class now if they're not within walking distance and even then it's a wait because there are more students than bus routes can keep up with. Pretty crazy.

My freshman son didn't even take his vehicle. It's sitting at the house. Parking permit was going to be around $800 so he just bought a scooter instead. His roommate has to walk .9 miles to get his spot for his truck. What's crazy is that in order to find a spot to stay next fall as a sophomore you better start looking now.

The dorms on campus need to be replaced.

I live in the historic district. Traffic doesn't really feel all that awfully different downtown this year. The real change, from what I occasionally have to experience, is all the fringe and expanding areas like everything south of MLK and out toward Wedington as well. Then, of course, the East side traffic is insufferable, but that's not related to students.

Really? What’s it like out that way now? I lived off Persimmon & Salem while in college. Always felt SOOO far driving down past penguin Ed’s. I had a membership at the anytime fitness down there. Crazy how fast it went to fields just 5 minutes down the road.

The apartments they tore down off South Street near Penguin Ed's B&B BBQ were terrible. They had pretty much been abandoned and taken over by squatters. There are some nice looking condos planned for that lot as far as I know.
Wedington is unrecognizable. I only mange to make it out there a few times per year, so every time I do its a shock.
The 5 story office building by the electric Co-Op building is just kinda crazy looking. That used to be the countryside.
It isn't slowing down. They're building stuff everywhere they can find a few lots to string together. Look for more stuff in central Fayetteville to be converted from empty/single story to 5-7 story buildings in the near future.

The definition of what is considered "downtown Fayetteville" now is pretty much MLK to North Street. Homes located between Garland and Crossover, and south of Milsap (central Fayetteville) are pretty bid up everywhere now.

You definitely don’t want to know when I graduated

A little concerned about this since my daughter will most likely be there next year. But looking like school will be paid for so there is that!

We used to live a block or so north of north (behind Evelyn Hills) and moved south of North a few blocks into the “historic district” and it’s a huge difference in the feel of the two areas.

Damn…just realized I’ve been on this site 17 years. Damn you Mitch Mustain! ??

Same here. It was ~17k when I hit campus in '04, and that was mind-boggling to me then, and that was nearly 50% of current enrollment.
Parking was a nightmare, and I can neither confirm nor deny that I got a ton of parking tickets and the occasional boot
I know they've built the new Garland dorm complex, but I see Yocum and Hump Dump still going strong. I think G-Rip and Buch-Droke are still there as well. All of them are an eyesore. The Northwest Quad was new when I was a student, which means it's 20 years old at this point.

New homes in my neighborhood just sold in the past month for high $700s and high $600s.
That is insane to me. You could buy a house in my hood for around $200k less than a decade ago.
