Not sure why it took this long. Letting the guys play instead of exotic stunts and blitzes. We are pressuring much faster and not constantly blowing assignments

I see now why Saban liked Golding. The complexity was pretty amazing.
However, the problem was always that it made our defense soft, and always reacting instead of attacking.
If Golding were just a bit more aggressive he'd be a great DC
But yeah, this simple, more aggressive defense is a breath of fresh air.
I wanna see how we fair against the elite offenses before I form an opinion about Steele but so far so good

Nice to see corners looking for the ball.
Also awesome to see the defense not trying to get the play call right up to the snap.

May have just been me but the defense looked like they knew their assignments and weren’t confused.
Just went about their business. The offense much better coached.
We may have something here.

The players just tackled better. They were moving faster. Like they were more confident.

Hard to take a lot from one game (and game 1) against a severely overmatched opponent. There are some absolute dogs on this defense, that’s what’s most clear. Super impressed with the talent in the LB corps and secondary.
And glad to see we weren’t getting ourselves flagged every other play. Seemed like LBs and safeties were more decisive, but hard to say too much about that just yet (and even if that is true, it might have more to do with roster changes than the coaching changes). I think though, that there was a reminder even in this game that our scheme is very beatable, with the same pathways to success as always. So, I’d say there are some subtle signs of improvement, but also some indication that the schematic issues that have plagued us in key games in the past remain (and, really, why wouldn’t they?) - all with the caveat that it’s hard to say much at this point.

There were only a couple of times the defense seemed out of sorts... and I only remember one blitz that took too long to develop. I still don't know what to think of our O-Line on some of the blitzes. And I would have expected more run yards. All in all it was a good day

They have to get better at covering the running back coming out of the backfield....we seem to forget about the rb a lot.

I've heard that Golding was very slow on pre snap adjustments from the booth... from what I'm hearing, I don't think the players were crying when he left.

Golding wasn't good enough for this level of football. ILB production went in the toilet as soon as he stepped on campus. The worst mistake of Saban's tenure at Bama was holding onto Golding for too long. He should've dropped Golding like he did Tosh.

Should’ve kept Tosh, fired Golding and hired a top notch DC.

I am cautious to proclaim the the positive differences because this was not top competition.
I did think the corners played the ball in the air better. The tackling was much better and we’re playing bigger upfront in base defense.

Tosh was leaving if he didn’t get promoted to DC, but I with the fire Golding part.

Saban did make him a Co-DC but when he did not live upto expectations he probably should have talked him into staying at another position maybe for more money. He was great at West Coast recruiting and with top recruits. JMO.

Golding stuck around because injury and pandemic excuses covered for the on-field struggles while his recruiting was stellar.

I'm glad I don't have to see Golding call for #10 to do a delayed rush into the middle of the offensive line, not making any difference other than to allow the middle of the field wide open.
He did that a lot.

I think this applies to BOTH offense AND defense. I thought BOB and Golding each limited our effectiveness at times over the past couple seasons by trying to play chess with the play-calling. When you have had Top 3 recruiting classes for 17 years in a row, you can do a lot by just playing checkers with the KISS principle.
