Auburn, are you happy you didn’t hire Deion Sanders?

I know he wasn’t a serious candidate but I remember hearing people wanting Auburn to hire Prime Time.

“I'm not welcoming to that word, culture," Sanders said. "That's all I heard when I was in Jackson. Culture, culture, culture, culture, culture. Now culture, culture. What the heck does that mean?"

"I don't think you got to have unity whatsoever," Sanders said. "You got to have good players."

"I don't care about culture. I don't care. I don't care if they like each other, man. I want to win," he said. "I've been on some teams where the quarterback didn't like the receiver, but they darn sure made harmony when the ball was snapped."

Sanders said that doesn't mean his players don't get along. He said there is plenty of evidence to the contrary. However, it does illustrate how his long professional playing career has influenced his priorities as he attempts to resuscitate a once-proud program.

Absolutory. I am more than 100% happy with Freeze. Only 1 or 2 other coaches in the country I would take over him at this point.

Freeze was the best hire you could have made and I’m looking forward to our LSU-Auburn matchup this season!

I was kinda expecting Deion to kill it in recruiting, and it’s been the exact opposite. Was very surprised. I guess he’s one of those “build using the portal” guys.

If AU had hired Deion, would he be wearing a cowboy hat?

I said it a million times. It's one thing to lure the best FCS talent to compete against FCS teams but it is a world of difference trying to lure the best FBS talent. He is untested in the FBS world.

Kiffin kinda said something similar at SEC Media days. That culture isn’t really a thing anymore with players coming in and out

Yes.

Deion Sanders being the HC of Auburn was pretty enticing, but Hugh Freeze fits Auburn and he’s who the PTB and BOT wanted.

As it stands, Hugh Freeze has been everything Auburn fans wanted and more. The roster is much better now than when Bryan Harsin was fired, the recruiting has been outstanding and the team appears together.

Do Auburn fans wear cowboy hats? We’re 30 miles from Georgia, not Oklahoma.

Honeymoons in Auburn last about 12 hours.

If your school is Colorado then you can see why he is going by the portal. Deion could need experienced players and mix it with recruits from HS. Colorado is also going to the Big 12 and that isn't really a good conference to be in for next year. Auburn is in the SEC plus Auburn have good boosters to help with recruiting. Deion goes there he would be recruiting about the same as Freeze would be recruiting right now.
But will that translate to getting the team to compete at the SEC level? Coaching is another thing that Deion might not be able to get it done.

Great point. He's going to have to win with what he has. I mean he can go 8-4 this season and it will be a world difference but he's got to win some games and prove he can put a 5 or 4 star into the NFL before they start coming like they would to a Saban or Smart team.

I could be wrong but I think Colorado has like 7 or 8 commits. My comment is based on when are these HS kids committing bc most blue chip talent is already off the board.

I wanted Prime for the recruiting. He woulda brought in the players. Freeze has brought in a couple but still has to show if they’ll sign. There is 0 question if Deion could bring recruits to the sec. It’s if he can actually coach and bring in a quality staff with him and allow them to do their part. We’ll see but I think Deion will be at an SEC/big 10/acc school in under 5 years.

If he was at Auburn, he would kill it in recruiting, but he is at Colorado. But he might not get the team to compete due to lack of HC experience at the SEC level. Freeze is the right hire.
