My property taxes alone are over 10k a year in texas. I seriously doubt the cost of living in South carolina is that high.

States with no state income tax usually have higher property taxes than others that do. Texas has one of the highest averages of property tax rates in the nation and a lot of people who move there forget about calculating property taxes.
Here in California, it's through the roof, regardless. It's awful here.
