What is College Station like?

I have never been to College Station, but everyone I know who has says it's fine but not really a great college town.
I imagine it as a bigger Starkville in my head but it is probably flatter and not as green. My take on Starkville is it is a college town that is a better retirement town than college town.

I’d like to know why someone would say it’s not a great college town. It’s like the quintessential college town. And despite some knuckleheads on here, they actually have pretty cool, passionate sports fans.

From what I understand, it's just a bunch of guys in white clothes making out. I've never been there so take that for what it's worth.

Coming from a UT fan, I think it’s a great college town. Certainly growing like crazy. George H W Presidential library is worth the stop.

Most people commenting on this forum have likely never been to College Station. I enjoyed visiting the school.

Pretty much. Bigger uglier version of Starkville with less trees.

You really have to include Bryan as well if talking about College Station. It is very much BCS more than just one of the other.
Restaurant scene has gotten better over time. Still a ton of chains but some actual nicer standalones have come along and upped things several notches.
Campus is huge and is at the north central part of town. North of it is North Gate, the primary nightlife scene. East of campus is a string of restaurants and stores with residences behind that. South of campus is mainly residences. West of campus is FM 2818, a bunch of apartments, a few communities, then a bunch of farm land.
South part of town has exploded since I was down there. So many more communities and businesses.
Things to do if you're visiting
-George HW Bush Library
-Bonfire Memorial, Memorial Students Center, Aggie Park
-Go to a game if it's a game weekend
-Check out Northgate, eat a Freebird at the original location (in texas... think there was a one off in california first), have a beer at the dixie chicken, learn to play 42 at the dominos tables there
-Play golf on campus or find somebody that knows somebody at one of the nicer private courses

Honestly, not bad, It is not real big, and just basically surrounds the school. Bryant is next door, and more of a town. There is a decent little bar district by the front gates. The ally of bottlecaps is a must see. It's not Austin, but better than Starkghanistan. There are liquor stores, and taco places stay open late.
