Screw Conference realignment, I want promotion and relegation

It's already happening organically to a certain degree with players in the portal. You're seeing all americans from smaller conferences transfer to teams in better conferences.
Last year we would've seen Texas A&M and Vandy get relegated down to let's say the Big 12 and TCU and Kansas St. promoted to the SEC.

Player turnover in cfb is too fast and loose for this system to make sense. I would have agreed with you 5 years ago.

I agree, around 60 teams in a 5 or 6 power conference. Relegate one team from each conference every year.

Here's how the Premiere Conference would have looked after the 2022 season:
Premier Conference:
Georgia
TCU
Michigan
Ohio St.
Penn St.
Tennessee
Alabama
Washington
Utah
Kansas St.
Notre Dame
South Carolina
Clemson
Florida St.
LSU
Tulane

Ohio St.

Notre Dame
South Carolina
Clemson
Florida St.
LSU
Tulane

I’d be down for it, but I don’t think it would ever get approval, unless the money was shared the same either way, which would never happen.
But if it did happen.. I think it would have to be done on a 2 or 4 year average, or something like that..
But those games would get some monster ratings..
2 year average..
Auburn vs Vanderbilt - loser goes down
(played right before the playoffs last year)

Is this a soccer thread?

I'm for the promotion/relegation in the conference that's reset every 4 years. Perms would be 1-4, 5-8 etc, then rotate the rest of the teams on the 3-6 system.

If we're going to keep including programs and (AAC-type) conferences that have no realistic shot at winning this thing, I'd be down for it too.
Seems like a fun way to weed out the lesser teams as opposed to just shoehorning them in and pretending.
Also might be pretty cool for some of these smaller programs to have an opportunity to win their league, against similar competition.

Please tell me how this would work.
It would be a bigger shite show on what it is already.

It's all fun and games until the Iron Bowl gets replaced by Alabama-ULL

Maybe just every other year. Nobody would ever want to lose Iron Bowls in Auburn. I bet ULL would be a more entertaining game in Tuscaloosa though.

Yea but how much would you love to send your biggest rival to a different tier

I'm sure it would be fun until they got into a spiral which they couldn't recover from. The flip could happen as well.

College football is 10x more regional than the NFL or some soccer European model can understand. That’d never work unless scholarships became guaranteed .

Can't speak for OP, but I was thinking in terms of a super conference scenario — maybe 4 conferences of 16 teams that compete for the CFP. The remaining teams play in the bowl game system, or have their own playoffs.
Promotion or relegation between the CFP league and the bowl league.

It's bad enough that this shite is going this way.
You FAFO and sending teams to the junior leagues it's gonna get worse. Saban isn't gonna be at bama forever. What happens if y'all go on a big slump? You're gonna be in the MAC or some shite.
It's fricking stupid. Kick teams out if you need to. Hell, kick us out. I'd rather be independent than that stupid shite.
