frick Alabama but I want an Alabama - NCST championship game with NCST winning obviously.

I would troll the shite out of them for making it to the game only to lose to an 11 seed.

I think it’s just been a couple of misses. Westry was supposed to be a huge part of the 22-23 team and was a zero and then Aden was probably eyed as a 10-12 ppg scorer preseason and was a role player. Can’t keep missing for sure but I wouldn’t call it “systematic”
I would tend to agree with this. I would not blame the below on anything "systematic". Here is a recap of the guard situation for the past 4 years, it's been a string of bad luck and G league.

2020
Sharife Cooper - McDonald's all american, 3rd highest recruit in AU history but only plays in 12 games due to dad/agent crap and then to top it off, he goes to G league
Justin Powell - Strong shooter and looked to be a nice 3 pt contributor and then his crap started so he transfers.
Jalen Green - Helluva player but ends up going G league instead of AU

2021
Trey Alexander - Requests release from LOI. Was rumored to be because of AU getting Desi Sills. Either way, he ends up not playing for AU
Desi Sills - Ended up not being able to come to AU due to academics. Awesome, staff loses not only Alexander but doesn't get Desi.

2022
Scoot Henderson - Was coming to AU until the G league came calling.

2023
Aden Holloway - 5* McDonalds all american, second highest rated recruit in AU history who did not play up to his billing...so far.

2024
Labaron Philon - decommits due to "staff changes", presumably the Wes Flanigan departure but ends up at Kansas.

I would also add.. we saw a huge need to address the 2 guard after the Zep-KD version and greatly improved there this year by adding Denver. Another similar improvement at the 1 this offseason and suddenly guards can be a real strength

Those are just the guards we missed on except you are missing Westry and the Baylor guy that became a stud.

There are also others that performed roles that dumbfounded the roster construct.

Last year we had a dozen solid guys, but nobody to stir the drink. Pearl had the portal, so what happened then? This year we got CBM and Broome became a dominating force. We did decently in upgrading.

We always have a bunch of guys that our fans want to hit the portal- such as cambridge, Kd, Wendy, westry, aden, so on.

Anywho, Wendell, KD,and Zep were the guards. Did Bruce go to Wendy and Zep because he thought they would be more driven? Where did this report come from anyway. If that report is accurate then that system is flawed as well.

In Jabari and Kessler's year the guard play was porous. Despite having those juggernauts we barely edged the total ppg as our dismal team the year before.

I really dont get what Bruce wants anymore but the fizzling then hitting the portal is becoming normal.

Didn't include Westry but I guess I could have. Didn't think he fit the category of "bad luck" or "G league". Davion Mitchell was 7 seasons ago but he unfortunately was at AU during the Harper and Brown era. I guess that one does fall under "bad luck".

Don't know and I don't know how much time he had to react to losing Sharife, Justin P, Trey Alexander and Jamal Johnson that year.

Agree but again I bet he thought he might have 2 of those three I mentioned above and that would have been a nice backcourt with Smith and Kessler. How great would it have been to have Sharife and Powell with Smith and Kessler.

The G league Ignite is gone.

The main issue is not the lose to Yale. It is the losses to Miami, Houston and Yale.

For whatever reason we have not made a Sweet 16 since 2019.

That hurts....

COVID year and the year after it were kinda weird. But the last 3 do hurt. Certainly agree we should have 1 second weekend from the last 3 seasons. 2 great-ish teams and one solid team and only 2 NCAA tourney wins.

Guard play. Everyone knows the guard play hasnt been there. Aden doesnt have IT. Tre is good not elite.

Bruce needs to stop with the smaller guard trend. ITs his MO, but it is holding him back imo

I mean this could very well represent another portion of our bad luck but Bama's offense is coasting after returning 25% of their minutes.

Offense is basically a given for them.

Most Auburn fans seem content with winning quad 2 and 3 home games with a loud arena. Not many seem to care about the quad 1 games that Bruce consistently can’t win.

Bruce isn’t on the same level as an offensive coach and developer of talent as alabama is with Oats.

They watched us go to a Final Four and significantly upgraded their program and have lapped us. It is what it is.

Can you and any other bama-lovers take it to a "bama basketball" thread for the love of Pete???

I don’t agree but I’d be fine with more of a mix. He seems to dislike bigger guards. But Sears isn’t exactly huge and he is THE reason Bama is where they are. I like the rest of our roster MUCH more than Bama’s but Sears is a dog and that’s why they are in the final 4.

Saying they lapped us is just stupid. And you know it’s stupid. We are right there in the margins. We win a recruiting battle on Sears or Trey Alexander and this whole thing is different. Saying a phrase over and over like “they lapped us” is why I am starting to hate this board. Just talk like a normal person and not my overly emotional sister.

Bama fans literally hated Grant Nelson and wanted Jarin Stevenson benched 2 weeks ago. Now to Stidham they are can’t miss stalwarts of the greatest basketball team ever assembled

I thought we beat them by 18 the last time we played?
