I can remember Bama and Ole Miss playing in the early game and MSU and LSU in the night cap.
We're there any other cities that had doubleheaders like that? I thought it was unique.

Went to all of them back in the day. We would catch the first game, tailgate on Millsaps campus, and go back for the night game.

Birmingham. LSU v Alabama in the day game then Auburn v. Miss St at night (Nov. 7, 1970).

I, along with about 65,000 of my closest friends, attended both games of this doubleheader despite a driving rain. (Single ticket got you in both games.)

Went to numerous double headers in Jackson in the 1970’s and 80’s. My Dad had two friends who set up their travel trailers on Friday afternoon and would stay until Sunday morning. It was about a stone’s throw to the stadium.
We always had a blast. I think one year State-Florida played the afternoon game and Ole Miss - Arkansas played the night cap.
Another year, State played in the afternoon and OM played USM that night.
Saw Jerry Clower several times throughout the years (he and my Dad were friends). In 1982 met a young Haley Barbour when no one knew him. Because of rainstorm came up he sat in our trailer for about a hour talking about all kinds of things. He was running for Senator against John Stennis that year.
Great memories but am glad all the games are on campus nowadays. Jackson served its purpose during that time.

You might could catch two games back then I guess, but the only thing you'll catch in Jackson today is a stray bullet. It's hell on earth but then, look who runs that dump.

I'm just imagining how many times you'd be shot for spending that many hours in Jackson, MS.
Gotta be in the double digits.
I've never entered/left a city so fast in my life.

Alabama and Auburn had a handful. The best known was in 1968 when Alabama played LSU in the afternoon and Auburn played Tennessee that night. All four were ranked in the top 20. Alabama won, 16-7 and Auburn won, 28-14.
In 1973 there was one that amounted to a season opening Pacific "8" vs SEC double header. Auburn beat Oregon State 18-9 in the day game (huge fight late in the game that is on YouTube) and Alabama just destroyed California, 66-0 in the night game. Older Tide fans might remember that one as the game where Bear introduced the crowds to Danny Ridgeway. Ridgeway was inured but Bear had him run plays in from the sidelines to the huddle and then exit and return to the sidelines before the snap. An unusal practice that lasted all season.
Probably what will most certainly be the last one at Legion Field was in 1987. That was the year Alabama played all of its home games at Legion Field as Bryant-Denny was being renovated. The afternoon game had the Magic City Classic with Alabama State and Alabama A&M and the night cap was Miss State and Alabama.
