This is pretty much what I'm talking about; many of our fans will bang on Dale for underachieving with ultra-talented teams (rightfully so in that situation), but ignore the fact he got to a Final 4 as a 11 seed in 1986 and was robbed of a Final 4 in 1987 in a one-point loss to Indiana (in the single biggest screw job I've ever seen a LSU team get in any sport) with a starting lineup of Darryl Joe, Anthony Wilson, Nikita Wilson, Bernard Woodside and Oliver Brown (and no bench to speak of). Just no context with LSU fans when it comes to Dale.

The demonization of Rupp is media horse shite.
People keep saying color did not matter to Rupp as long as a kid could play. Well if that is true, why didn't he have black players? Surely a man as smart as Rupp could see how good black athletes were. I never met the man but if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck.

Ever been to Mississippi back in those days?

He basically told his players he couldn't protect them. How could he?

The man was far from perfect, but I have to step in on this part.

The Mississippi schools would've refused to play us.

btw, I was at the Mideast regional in '76 in Baton Rouge. Alabama played Indiana in the semi-final and came very close to beating Indiana. Newton was Bama's coach. Indiana's unbeaten '76 team is regarded as one of the best team of all-time and Bama stayed right with them.

they profiled that game during SEC Storied last night

So black people are, overall naturally more athletic?
What good traits are whites superior at?

With cancel culture? It's hard to tell.

I'll disagree with the last part of your post, tho.
If I had to guess, it will be when the next outrage over injustice erupts.

I believe there was momentum built during the Floyd/Taylor protests and another outbreak will make it happen.

How old are you?

Rupp had black players when he coached above the Mason - Dixon Line.

Have you ever been to a sporting event (North or South) before say 1950?

It was a whole different world back then.

Folks today think they know history without ever actually having lived through it.

CM Newton.
I think he was on the rules committee that adopted the shot clock to stop that UNC "stall ball" of Dean Smith.

Yep, the famous Dean Smith "4 corners" strategy of endless dribbling - I remember an ACC game with a final score of 10-8 - that was a catalyst to the shot-clock.

Just turn it into a silly movie right. Everything is so simple and it's stock racist characters.
They go after Bear too even though he did integrate, it wasn't soon enough. The mythos with Sam Bam Cunningham, but Bama already had signed black players and reality is so much more complicated. It does make a good story but the simple story of villains and heroes and how much more advanced we are now takes over for any attempt at actually understanding a very complex time. And it'll be done in the future too, in 40 years they'll strip the records of all the players who didn't kneel for George Floyd, who will be a universal saint.

Yes, they are naturally more athletic. They dominate the NBA and NFL. They dominate every sport except for the ones with unequal access such as gold, hockey, and tennis. Even there they can still be dominant when they break through barriers.

Man I didn't have equal access to hockey either.
God think how many rinks we have to build in Jackson. Or do you wanna ship em to Minnesota? How do we make access equal? We gotta break these barriers and stuff.

He had to notice the great Cincinnati teams led by Oscar Robertson and later Paul Hogue. I mean if George Smith and Ed Jucker saw the ability of black athletes, surely Rupp could.

No way Rupp missed out on the dynasty the Bearcats built under his own nose.

Arthur Ashe, isn't that tennis complex in Cincinnati named after him?

As for hockey in Cincinnati have you ever been to a game? They had the Stingers there along time ago. Have not kept up.

Also, not all blacks are equally athletic. Most of the sports folks genetically come from a few tribes in Africa. It would be like saying all Europeans are athletic when maybe it is just the Swedes.

He had black players on his high school teams in Kansas in the 1920s. Do some research you ignorant fool.

That's you, you just hate yourself and you think you're staying young and relevant by staying "with it". You're like the Dad who thinks he cool. It's so much lamer

Middle aged *conservative* southern white guys

Important caveat there I forgot to add

And I still have at least 5 years before I can be considered middle aged
