Dan Mullen is the obvious choice, not trolling. I believe he did a great job at MSU and is available. I wonder how may bridges he burned in Starkville. With the opportunity at a second chance, he might appreciate it more.

Whatever you do, do NOT make an interim hire. It kills recruiting for this year and the next. That is hard to overcome at a place like MSU. Look what it got Arkansas. If the DC deserves it then roll with him but with a 4 year contract. Low salary and low buy out and then get good assistants to help him out, preferably someone with head coaching experience.

I believe Leach assembled a great staff and I am 100% keeping them together. Hire Arnett and bring someone in as an administrative associate HC who has the experience to advise and handle certain things. Jackie is still around, not sure how involved he would want to be. Also a few other options around. I’m not talking a decision maker but an advisor. Old man Spurrier might even be an option.

Let arnett try.

Give him a million dollar raise to be CEO.

No real pressure given how this has all happened so suddenly

Joe Judge or an air-raid disciple.

i would prefer someone young and from the ML coaching tree or someone with direct lines to that tree.

kendal briles would be a good one IMO.

It can't be too soon. There is a time and a place. That's the unfortunate way of life today.

Fact is, recruiting will not end, nor the bowl game. MSU has to move forward.... that doesn't mean you leave behind Leach.

We have no AD. Do we let the interim AD do a big coaching search? Do we hire an AD first and let him do it? That’s question number 1.

You will have one within a week right? I thought I read MSU was conducting the final interviews this week.

Question 2. Who could we realistically get at this point that would be decent?

Some say promote our DC Arnett to HC for a year and reassess. Now he has proven to be a great DC but is only 36 years old with only 4 years as a coordinator. There’s a lot a head coach does that would be a big step for him with that little experience. Also you’d have to give him at 3-4 year contract. The 1 year idea would devastate recruiting. This is a high risk/high reward type hire. He would need to hire 2 good coordinators and once again, who is available?

If we go looking for a coach who is available?

Who ever you hire... They need to retain Arnett. His buy out is high for a reason.

He has the ears of the players too. recruits well.

Joe Judge - former Giants head coach, current QB coach at New England. Didn’t do great at the Giants but doesn’t mean much. He played at MSU and was a graduate assistant there. Could be a solid hire with NFL offensive experience that could do something with most of our offensive production returning, and NFL offense isn’t much different than the air raid. If Arnett would stay as DC I could see this working.

Who else could be a potential hire? I saw Kingsbury mentioned on the CC board but I’m not sure about that.

You would be foolish to move away from what Leach built. You go get a Leach tree guy. If not, you will have a alot of guys leave.

Every QB you have and are about to sign is there due to Leach and his system. They have all stated it's why MSU over others. Switch and some move on. And those guys are record breakers in HS.

Riley Lincoln if you can get him.

There are a lot of good suggestions here, especially Gary Patterson and Dana Holgorsen. Without a doubt, that is the best solution.

But lets assume that its a decision that the school wants to postpone until an AD is in place, yet they need a coach for 2023 with the understanding the guy is there for one year and he has to retain 90-100% of the current staff. There is one guy that comes to mind when you consider interim coaching and recruiting the area. Ed Orgeron. With $17M in the bank, he is unlikely to be wanting a major college head job and he would have to agree to let the staff continue in their current role and is there to ONLY act as an executor so to speak for a transition year.

Realistically, I don't think it comes to this, and you are better served getting a long term guy hired.

It's tough to have make these decisions right now, but I would go with Arnett as HC and Spurrier Jr as OC.

There is one man that has the balls and the system that could fill Leach’s shoes at State. He’s been out of the conference for too long.

Now is the time to welcome him back.

Do it Mississippi State. Ring them cowbells and HIRE FREAKIN HAL MUMME!!!

The only reasonable solution that Leach would want IMHO:

I would have an interim for next season. You will have a better shot at getting a decent coach then.
