Sounds a little more sever than a “I was 19, she was 17” case. Sounds like the dude is a pervert and sharing photos of underage girls online.

I have a lot of experience dealing with people convicted of sex offenses, primarily sex offenses against minors. The charges and statements from Gainesville PD do not sound like what many of you are using to defend him.
This sounds much like the sharing of child pornography. Most of which is for children ages 14 and much less. These images are shared by pedophiles on peer to peer data sharing services. These images are shared worldwide by pedophiles and have series names. This is horrible stuff.
I hope this is not the case here but I fear that it is a lot more serious than many of you think.
ETA: If you ever had to read the Presentence Investigative Report of an offender convicted of possession/ distribution of child pornography, then you would be absolutely heartbroken. This stuff ruins lives and the sharing and distribution is much more widespread than many people know.

Judging by the fact that he shared the pics on a forum to someone who clearly didn’t ask for it and was so appalled by it they reported him to Discord and the police, the following are my theories, based on that and other info in the report:
1. It wasn’t him with an underage girl, because he said he found the pic on the internet.
2. People who get caught sharing child porn seem to be members of groups that share it amongst themselves. Since he shared it with someone who didn’t want it, that tells me that he didn’t think it was bad, or at least it was marginal or questionable.
3. I think it was a picture of someone he knows that is underage (either the guy or girl or both). Possibly revenge porn and he shared it to another friend thinking they would think it was interesting or funny.
Of course I could be wrong. It just doesn’t make sense for a child pornographer to just randomly share child porn with a regular person.

I knew a guy in my profession from another school in the district that was busted for this. You would have never suspected it. When news first came out, I was hoping it wasn't true. He was early-20's at the time, so it COULD have been a 3down10 situation, or him sharing pics of an ex-GF from a couple of years ago.
It turns out he was under surveillance for years. He was on the government radar before he was married. Needless to say, the marriage was annulled. When facts came out, it was the sharing of images in chatrooms and shite like that. This sounds eerily similar. If NCMEC is involved, it's gonna be a serious issue and not some misunderstanding. This kid messed up...big time.
