Too Early to Look to 2023?

Definitely need to take care of business the next couple of weeks, but it's hard not to look ahead.
It's a good time for a staff overhaul since the team itself will be in rebuild mode. Fresh start all around. Could be exciting with the right hires. The offense will be almost entirely new outside of some offensive linemen. New starting QB, new starting RB...who knows what the starting WR group will look like. Defense will have big turnover as well.
Probably the biggest rebuilding offseason of the Saban era. Maybe the challenge will reinvigorate him. Will still be preseason top 10 based on talent, but may not even be favored to win the west.
Hunter instead of the hunted for the first time in a long time.

Not really except for QB. Wide receiver will have a lot of talent and depth. Tight end will be about the same or better. Latu is decent to good. Running back will bring back McClellan and Williams. Plus you have Jamarion Miller, Richard Young and Justice Haynes. The offensive line brings back what could be four starters if Cohen returns. Defense brings back talent in spots. Lawson will be the signal caller at linebacker.

Luckily our recruiting classes, on paper, have been deeper the last 3 years than any period during Saban's tenure. So the raw material is there.
Should be an easy sell to coordinators - we have young talented kids, you will be given every resource to succeed, if you perform well for 2-3 years you will have your pick of big time Power 5 head coaching gigs. Probably more mystery going into 2023 than any year since 2014, but I'm kind of excited about it (assuming we actually do follow through with new coordinators).
The 2023 home slate is the best since the 1980s
vs Texas
vs Ole Miss
vs Arkansas
vs Tennessee
vs LSU
That's fantastic

I agree...it could be exciting...and that home schedule is awesome.
But it will be deflating if BOTH coordinators and a couple of position coaches aren't changed. I've always thought BOoB would be gone after this season no matter what...but I'm really worried Saban won't pull the trigger on Drunk Azz for some bizarre reason. If he can recruit...fine, let him slide into a position coach or something. It's not like he's in a position to refuse...no one in the Power 5 is going to hire him as a DC.

Depth, yes.
Talent, are we sure? Recruiting rankings say yes. Film says maybe not.

I agree to the extent we need to be in synch.
We have talent, could be undefeated but it just looks like guys are playing to be stars instead of workers.

Talented players. Most of them are young though. Brooks, Earle, Prentice, Bond, Law are all sophomores and freshmen. I would throw Amari Niblack in there with them. Then we redshirted Shazz Preston and Aaron Anderson. Then you add in Benson the star JUCO transfer and Jalen Hale who I really like as a prospect. One would think that Harrell will be back. Not sure about Burton but he hasn't proven to be a sure fire NFL player thus far. Bama will be loaded with depth at WR.

Getting the tough games at home is massive with a new QB. Maybe we go to the transfer portal for a QB.

Then some need to take a step ahead of the others.
QB is gonna be a question.
So it's imperative we have an OC that can make it work.

Hopefully Ty Simpson steps up. Really quiet as a former 5 star recruit. I would hope we evaluated and developed a 5 star recruit well enough that he could start as a sophomore and we're not looking to the portal for a QB. If you're trying to live off the portal, something is wrong with your recruiting evaluations and/or player development.

Agreed. Need to rejuvenate the offense and maybe get a QB via transfer. LSU and Tennessee made it work the past two years.

It will be really interesting to see if the staff goes after a transfer at QB or sticks with Simpson and Milroe to compete for the job. Simpson is a really talented player.

A transfer QB can only make the competition more intense which is great. May the best man win. Personally, I hope Simpson takes the bull by the horns and owns it. He has a great arm and is super mobile. Nothing against Jalen, but goodness he looked lost as a passer out there. Like, beyond bad. He’s such an athletic freak, I’d love to see him get a crack at RB.

Drake Maye at UNC was a former bama commit. He has a great year and he’s #4 odds to win heisman

I think Ty will be more ready than what people expect. His dad is a successful college head coach at UT Martin, not to mention his highschool coach was none other than the QB guru himself, Trent Dilfer. He played in my nephews division in high school and while it wasn’t an overly competitive division it is producing d1 players year after year. You could see glimpses in a nervous A-day game; he has incredible zip and arm talent. He will surprise many with his ability to escape and get up field as well. He is a player.

Gonna be a crazy year. Our season will depend on our OL.

Latu is gone
Maybe the softest TE Saban has had. He looks like he gets injured after almost every play and his ball security is not good.
Hoping this position returns to being a strength next season.

Kinda like with Tua, you could just tell from the eye test. Really hoping he wins the job.
