Nothing personal against all of the hardcore college baseball fans on this board willing to die on the hill defending the relevance and importance of their beloved sport with the sensitivity of 7th grade girls at a Sadie Hawkins Dance. Also, it's all subjective and you'd have to operationalize and define "big," but my question is how can college baseball possibly be a big sport when very few college baseball teams actually turn a profit.

Arkansas is one of just a few college baseball programs to have turned a profit. According to a June 2020 report from the Omaha World-Herald, just 15 of 299 NCAA Division 1 baseball programs, including Arkansas, did so in 2019.

Also, how can college baseball be a big sport when way more people watch women's college softball than men's baseball and it's not even close?

TV Numbers: WCWS, championship crush MCWS in ratings

If nothing else, it's a nice diversion in the spring?

You just kicked the nuts of most all travel ball parents who ever lived.

I hope you are proud of yourself.

Ole Miss turns a profit in baseball, and I'm pretty sure State and LSU do as well.

I don't know of anybody on this board that is going to argue that college baseball is bigger than football or basketball. At best it's the 3rd most popular.

That doesn't mean that it's not the most enjoyed sport from April - June

Not sure what the intention of this thread was.

Bc ESPN has gone way too woke and made sure to shove women's softball and the WCWS down our throats compared to the men's.

This marks the third time since 2015 that the Women’s College World Series has outdrawn the CWS in terms of TV viewership in the Championship Series.

So, 3 times in 7 years WCWS has drawn more. Wow. So, dominating. I'd argue it depends on the teams involved. Michigan/Florida WCWS is going to draw a lot better relatively for that year in softball than a MSU/Vandy final in the CWS.

Also, I'm sending over my tourney ball nephew, Paxton, to scissor kick you in the nads.

Most under leveraged sport in the business. It is amaing and very inexpensive, like baseball back in the 30s-40s.

College baseball is huge in the Southeast United States. This article doesn’t change that. It’s by far the smallest of the big 3 sports but still big 3. Ole Miss , LSU , MSU and Arkansas make good money.

Yeah but to be fair. It depends on how you ask question.

Is it a big sport in the SEC? Yes, for a more than a couple of fan bases it’s bigger than basketball.

Is it a big sport nationally? Hell no. Look at attendances from Big10, PAC12 schools, high schools down here in central MS (baseball capital of the country) draw more fans at a baseball game than probably half the P5 schools. ACC and Big12 have a few that care and put more than a couple hundred in the stands, but they are not as baseball crazy as SEC.

This is an SEC board, in the SEC baseball is most definitely a big sport. Nationally? No. The fact that 80%
Of P5 schools could care less about baseball skews the numbers when you look at college baseball interest, ratings and attendance numbers.

There are a lot of football programs in the NCAA that don't turn a profit either. Only way teams like Vanderbilt can do it is by getting SEC money. Baseball is a regional sport especially in the MLB.

PS: what's the tuition at Arkansas? This is $55K per scholarship. What else is included?

quote:

• $651,084 for scholarships distributed among 28 student-athletes (college baseball teams are allowed 11.7 full-ride scholarships to divide among as many as 30 players);

Well of course an Alabama fan would start a thread shitting on baseball. Maybe if the schools in Alabama pumped a little funding into the sport it would grow over there. Arky, LSU, MSU, Ole Miss and even the aAgs have their baseball in order in the west.
