Agree, but Clowney may get more minutes than Gurley. Griffin likely to get good minutes too because he has been a consistent shot maker in practice, this past summer, and the exhibitions. With those starters and Clowney, Pringle, Miles, Bradley, Welch, and Griffin able to come in and contribute, we have really good depth. Plus JQ likely back by December.

If those young big guys continue to gain experience...we could possibly become very scary because they both add something different from past seasons under Coach Oats.

Gurley will not start. He has gotten numerous opportunities and has not produced in a meaningful way. His rebounding is utterly lacking. Oats wants to win. He will not compromise.

Starting doesn’t really mean much with this team. They’ve got a lot of interchangeable parts when everyone is healthy. The bigger question is who is the odd man out of the rotation, and what that does to team chemistry, because we’ve got 12 guys who can meaningfully contribute but probably won’t play more than 9 or 10 once conference play starts. Guessing it’ll be Bradley and Griffen unless either one blows up in the nonconference.

- Sears/JQ
- Burnett/Welch
- Diaz-Herrero/Miles
- Gurley/Clowney
- Bediako/Pringle

Minutes/rotations will have to be worked out. Luckily the first four games should allow us to do that. They are decent mid-majors but teams we should handle.

I don’t think Bradley gets left out of the rotation. That just doesn’t often happen with top 25 recruits.

Also, we won’t have to worry about it. We won’t have 12 healthy guys all year long.

I agree with this. Call me an eternal pessimist but I doubt JQ will be healthy enough to fully run the offense when he does come back so I would imagine Bradley has to play and for our sake he’ll need to be pretty decent. I think JQ will return and be off the ball primarily to reduce the amount of stress on him.

Anyone who expects a 100% JQ at any point this season is blindly optimistic. ACL recovery is like an 8 month process, but getting back to the level of performance you were capable of prior to the injury is more like 18 months.

Playing him mostly off ball would make sense provided he's able to shoot like he did two years ago. His game on ball is entirely quickness and speed, which is probably not going to be back this year.

Don't really know his chemistry yet with this group, but I think we've been better with him coming off the bench anyway.

He might be able to do it based on how many minutes he plays and with what grouping, especially if we're not having to depend on him crashing inside on every possession.

Guess we'll just have to see what sort of role he takes. I expect him to be a leader off the court for sure.

Im hopeful that Burnett shows out and that Miles takes another step in improvement.

The best bet for JQ is to take on his role similar to a couple years ago and provide a spark off the bench and to get a bucket when the team is really needing one. I think Bama will be fine with Sears/Bradley handling the majority of the PG duties. It's odd to say this regarding a 5* player but I feel like all the hype has been geared towards Miller and Clowney and here is Bradley who is a perfect fit to run this system.

Having watched three practices and seen stats from the two exhibitions and summer, I don't think we can leave Griffin out of the rotation. He has been the most consistant shot maker - he had 2 of our 3 three's in the South Ill game and was 3rd leading scorer behind Miller's 33 and Sear's 10 in TCU loss. He is a freshman and needs to get stronger, but at 6'5" he can defend and rebound. Bradley is strong and can get to the basket and score, as well as pass, but he is struggling with his outside shot right now. Oats said he would likely play all of the rotation who can play in pre-SEC games, so we, and the players, will find out who can play soon.
