Who would you like to see as OC if BOB leaves?

Me personally I’d like to see Kevin Sumlin get a call. He hasn’t worked out as a head coach but he’s a great in rhythm play caller. Those offenses in the early 2000s at Oklahoma were lethal. If not Sumlin I’d like to see Dan Mullen get the job.

Someone from the Shanahan tree of offense
(1) It is a multiple and effective offensive system with the types of players we have that can be shifted more towards pass or run based on personnel strengths
(2) It is THE NFL offense right now, a major selling point in recruiting
(3) There are tons of guys in the system up and down the NFL and now college to choice from to replace the OC when he leaves and pick right up where it left off
- Zac Robinson (Rams QB coach)
- Thomas Brown (Rams RB coach) (ex-UGA RB)
- Bobby Slowik (49ers Pass Game Coordinator)
- Troy Walters (Bengals WR Coach)
- Rich Scangarello (Kentucky OC, previously 49ers QB coach)

What’s your opinion Chad Morris, Kevin Sumlin and Dan Mullen?

I think Mullen is a good offensive coach but I'm not sure his scheme is something we want. Wouldn't be totally opposed, but I think it would be hard to mesh what he does with the "Alabama system".

Their offense overall has been pretty bleh so far this year, but the way they play in entirety kind of lends to that I think with Stoops. They also just don't have a ton of WR/RB explosive talent w/o Rodriguez and their line is still a little suspect. And the way they play offense is just really fun to watch - run the ball hard, take shots, matchups, motion, all that stuff.
That system with our skill guys would be incredible. And, like I said, you have a very easy plug and play because there are so many young, hungry coaches that have been soaking it up in various NFL buildings for a few years and would be itching to go do it and then get a NFL gig. Just like Kentucky did with Cohen and then Scangarello to replace him. You'd honestly be able to feel good about the offensive coaching turnover for the rest of Saban's tenure. New guys, new voice, but exact same skeleton system, language, etc. It also just feels like a system - and a coaching fraternity - that would fit perfectly in our building. All those young guys from the original Redskin Shanny tree are balls to the walls workers and competitors and all the guys who come up under them are very similar.
That is the single best decision Stoops has made at Kentucky - basically deciding to be the farm system for the Shanny Offensive System.

Someone like Zac Robinson or Bobby Slowik (passing game coordinators for the Rams and 49ers respectively) would be kinda outside the box hires from that particular offensive system. They're both relatively inexperienced, but that's really not stopping NFL teams from hiring guys anymore. Mike McDaniel is looking like a great hire by Miami so far and he had 1 year under his belt as an OC.
I just question whether Saban is willing to roll the dice on these kind of guys at this point. I think it'd be a pretty safe bet considering how many of them are excelling in the NFL, but I'm not the one making the hires.

I’m pretty sure the last time we posted this thread there was some weird AJ Milwee angle being pushed then too. I’d rather take a proven OC than just promote a guy who was an average Akron OC and never showed much in that regard
Personally I’m on board with Briles, Ruggiero, or Longo but I have a feeling Briles is untouchable.
My favorite was Lebby but that’s never happening

I would feel a little better about Milwee at this point after spending 4 years as Sark's right hand man both in Tuscaloosa and Austin than I did 2 years ago.

I'd take Milwee now, for your exact reason. Before, he was just a "connect the dots" speculative hire because of his ties and not a lot of experience. It's a risk, but his fits the system in place and has previously coached there.
As the years pass, the shine on Joe Brady has been stripped away. He never called plays at LSU, he may have just had a generational talent at QB and WR, and got fired from his first time playcalling for Carolina.
They're both kinda equal for me, albeit them moving in opposite directions. Brady doesn't like recruiting and prefers the NFL, so I feel it's moot to consider him returning to college.
