Lets say they send him kicking sand this season.

Can we calculate the cost of his two seasons? What is his buyout at this point?

Buyout is like $18 mil and we paid him $10mil.

That averages out to $14m/ yr. That's a lot but for perspective, it's only $4-5m more than UGA / Bama / LSU are paying

I would say closer to $100 million. He set us back 4 years.

Don’t know about staff salaries, but Harsin alone will have made $10.1 million for his two years, plus right at $15 million for his buyout (70% X $21.4 million remaining on his contract).

So roughly $25 million for two seasons. Pretty expensive mistake.

Another $20+.

It’s like the AU braintrust heard the old “if you want to make an omelette, you got to break some eggs” theory and figured it would be a great idea to dynamite the henhouse.

Someone calculate how much in buyouts Auburn has paid since Sabans time in UAT.

I’m too lazy.

We were 4th in the SEC last year in revenues. 10th in the country. We raked in 117 million despite being terrible. A good coach will spring us to the top 5. We can't just look at a buyout but revenue lost due to poor product.

Kinda is. If you want a true cost to own, which is what your title says, you need to include sunk and revenues.

It actually is the point.

Harsin is costing us much more than his buyout. Limiting the conversation to his contract ignores the revenue potential of hiring a high quality coach.

We fret so much over money that is not ours. We bitch about the PTB, but if they want the power, then they pay. They want to have all the influence over coaches, good pay up. Pay what needs to be paid to fix it. I don’t give a shite what it costs, they are paying the bill.
