Jimbo has won a natty, and is sitting on the #1 class for 2023, had the #1 class in 2022, and you have to go back quite a ways to see A&M out of the top 10 classes.

Remind me again, who did he lose to this year? Did they win the conference last year?

Point is, some are hinging everything about Sanders, on recruiting. This is big, big boy football not the SWAC, and certainly not high school.

Hilarious that some are actually saying "if he can surround his self with quality assistants....."! So, just so that I'm straight here, people are advocating hiring a guy because he has recruited a couple of big names at a SWAC school, and hoping he can bring in some really good assistant coaches. Logic is out the window. Gus, Harsin, Nix, and Finely have broke some brains!

How is Deion a high risk candidate?
I think everyone is overestimating how easy it will be for him to recruit at a high level. The negative recruiting will be easy and will be overwhelming for the recruits he's going to be going after.

So the high risk is we pay him an absurd amount of money to not recruit as well as we want and not coach as well as we want.

I'd rather we pay a bunch of money for someone who we know for a fact can do one or both of those things. We still don't know for a fact he can recruit in the SEC and we definitely don't know that he can coach in the SEC.

Of course, the likelihood he can't recruit is low - I get that. But man what a freaking disaster that would be if he didn't bring in some good classes right off the bat.

No disagreement there - I think all of us would love to get a bigtime name who is also proven recruiter and coach - say a Stoops, Kiffen, etc... That said, I think more likely than not we are going to swing and miss on those types of hires.

Good news is the program is already working on it so hopefully they get it figured out ahead of time and we don't have the debacle that our last search was.

What would they be negatively recruiting?

If he can sell a 5* to go to SWAC, he can sell ice to the snowman.

List them. List what Deion can’t do that Harsin can. Why is one unthinkable and one a decent hire at the start.

I don’t know much about Deion now but I bet in his playing days he could command a hot tub. I’ve heard about his teams. Ole Michael Irvin said when the plane landed the pilot told the cowboys to put their wedding rings back on.

Work... hard work... the hardest work of any hard working worker that ever worked.

But the more serious answer is that coming in I would say Harsin has more experience coaching at major programs and I would have thought that a Peterson protege (who is a legend IMO), would perform better than Harsin ultimately did. It seems like Peterson just left Boise in such a good spot that it's a much easier place to coach.

It's pretty wild to think that Malzahn may have had a better passing offense compared to Harsin

You think recruits are going to listen to that shite? He is PrimeTime. He coached Under Armour all star teams and recruits loved that shite. Don’t tell me Hank the TE coach can outrecruit him. He is that friend your woman says you don’t have to worry about.

The only possible negative recruiting item could be FSU.

Let’s give a blank check to Primetime who recruited exactly one…one five star and zero high profile assistant coaches to Jax State. And we don’t care if Primetime can’t coach, he’ll hire people who can. W.T.F.

This is beyond dumb.

Just hire someone who is good at something. Pittman from Arky seems to be a good team builder, recruiter, and personal guy. Heupel can score some points. Harsin seems to have nothing that grabs attention.

With that being said, Kiffin and Freeze can call a game and put points on the board. Same with Petrino. I realize they all have a history, but I hope we don’t hire a random Joe camping out in some minor conference unless they have a legit skill set. That’s why we are in our current situation.
