Have been an AU fan since the Brent Fullwood days (took my football number 22 from him). Remember Bo but not like Fullwood. For some reason, I have just been "meh" about this season.

Give me a reason to get back to waking up at 5:00 to start the smoker, having butterflies the night before the game, and even cheering for our boys during the season that didn't happen. I want the joy to return...but it just isn't.

I mean it’s never the same when you can’t muster up a feeling that we have a shot at a championship.

But I’m just leaning into relaxing and not having the stress. Just get some drinks, watch some football and enjoy the day. Obviously don’t want that long term though

Let me reframe your mindset because it’s not your fault… AU has let you down. AU if it is to operate a program of this expense owes you the fan something worthy of supporting. AU milks you of every dime possible for a subpar product and has done so for many years now. Your blind loyalty is what this AD depends on. Hold them accountable for the huge hiring blunders and rampant price gouging. You didn’t make that coaching hire decision, you didn’t push the alumni off campus to tailgate in order to prop up a business model that killed off the charm of Auburn Gameday… AU has to answer in spades because this feeling you have is exactly what 90% of the fan base / alumni feel. Release the 98/99 gameday vibe once again, reduce ticket prices by half, get in the mud and win “at all costs” no matter the rules and make Auburn great again before it slips away entirely.

For me, "Auburn is going to Auburn" has become a thing. Maybe I am just getting old. Maybe the whole idea of this transfer from here to there waters down pulling for "our boys". Maybe the fact no kid commits to a school anymore. Maybe, just maybe, I have become the "get off my yard" old man. It just doesn't seem like football of old. The babying of these players seems over the top. No more "blood on the saddle" type toughness. Maybe there is no hope for me and I will divert all of my fandom to the Braves. At least in MLB I know they are divas because they are paid to be. The fan experience of college football has been watered down.

All of this.

Unlike many of you here, I could care less if we’re in the championship hunt every year. Save for a brief run in the 80s, that’s just not who we are as a program.

I think that’s why Jarquez is such a popular player amongst the old school AU faithful - he’s a throwback to a simpler time, a country dude who does work, hard work.

But guys like him are a dying breed, and will completely disappear as the sport fully transforms into NFL Lite.

Gus killed much of my enthusiasm and I have had a hard time getting it back.

Harsin had me warming up again last year until he flopped.

With the transfer portal I just look at it like a divorced woman, she made a mistake and wants to come home for a second chance, this time with her true love

NIL may not be what the kids think, they may get a few bucks, and with the portal they may find themselves quickly kicked to the curb. And this nonsense about committing early "just to save my spot" will be short lived as well.

Let me help you out of this funk! I have watched a lot of interviews from different players and the more I hear from these guys, the more I see that they love each other and they love Auburn. Especially the kids that transferred in like Robby. They will be fun to watch this season!

The other thing to be excited about is that we finally have a staff that can develop QBs! Regardless of what you thought about TJF, he was much better than he was last year. Robby was at Oregon for two years and never got to see the field. He said on the War Rapport that he didnt even get a chance to compete for QB1 there. Now he's poised to be a great QB at Auburn and future QB1. Our staff did that! Not to mention that our defense is pretty good with A LOT of players on the 2 deep that transferred in. All of these guys should get better over the course of the season.

Now if the PTB will just leave Hars be and let him work, this could be a great season and great future for AU. Go watch some player interviews and get to know these guys on a different level. You will find all kinds of reasons to be excited and pull for them!

It is just a part of what being an Auburn fan is all about. Each year I start the season praying for victory. By midseason I am praying that we only lose by single digits. By the end of the season I am praying that we don't get shut out. Who else prays for a safety or a field goal? Nobody I know.
But it is the never-ending disappointment that makes us who we are. Loyal to Auburn no matter what, even when we are spiraling down. Remembering when we were great and hoping that we will be once again.

Jesus y’all need to man up. There are about 15 teams in the country that have a legit opportunity to win an national championship. Auburn is one of those teams.

Yes our 2 rivals are on great runs now. We have been in the past as well. (Maybe not this Bama run) but damn it will end for both and we will rise and win our share as well. Will it be under this staff I have no idea.

Y’all sound like the new generation of everyone gets a trophy kind of kids. If we don’t get 1st place then I don’t even want to try. What the hell. Be men. And we complain about safety rules in the game about the pussification of America but act like bitches on a message board because I can’t say we are gonna win every game by 28.

Football in general is just dead to me, it's been on that trajectory for 4-5 years now. Didn't watch a single minute of any game Saturday. It used to be all I did.

I doubt I'll ever be as amped as I once was, but I do somewhat enjoy the unknown after the slog of Malzahn where stuff got very predictable. Maybe Finley will surprise, maybe we'll find something in Ashford, maybe we'll be forced to give the keys to Holden - whatever. Maybe we'll go 8-4 but beat UGA because Tank goes for 300 yards in an all-timer performance.

But the reality is that Auburn finds itself in a kind of a dull position where it's top rivals are close to unbeatable, and it's secondary rivals aren't very good. Is it going to make your year if we beat LSU? Didn't think so. And the other good teams we will play - A&M for example - meh. The program is/was too good to get too enthusiastic about A&M or Ole Miss, and not good enough to compete with UGA/Bama.

Deep down I think a lot of us miss the feel of the Tubs years, where we could be every bit an 8-4 team but we were up for it when it came to a top 5 game. Now everything is just more polarized and there is a certain lack of magic that comes along with it.

The Malzahn predictable stuff cracks me up always. Especially talking about plays and play calls.

I bet I could pull up 20 plays and formations and not 1 person could get 40% correct on what the play is. On games already played.

If you’re saying oh we lost to lsu in red stick. Well no shite lsu had a very good run and was one of the top 3-4 most talented teams in the nation and it’s hard to win on the road.

We also had very talented teams and just straight up blew several of those games due to play callings

At least we don't walk out of the stadium sobbing like the Bama fans did when their team was defeated by Clemson. I did have an extra beer when we lost the national championship game to Florida State though.
