Jokes aside, it's hard to know what LSU has in Kelly.

He did well at Notre Dame playing a shite schedule. In recent years he was able to somewhat hold his own in the playoffs.
But his talent level at Notre Dame was never remotely close to SEC level.

You give Brian Kelly LSU level talent, and he might actually turn out to be pretty dominant. He might be the 2nd best coach in the West.

The last 2 HCs were far more sloppy than Kelly and both won NCs

Ig we'll see

As an LSU fan who was extremely reluctant for LSU to hire him, I hope he changes things up at LSU.

He’s has a rather abysmal record against top talent but now he has the players (more of less seeing it’s his first season here) so hopefully he will earn that pricey paycheck.

Logical thought pattern. I’d say let’s see how he does. I expect much better coaching than we’ve had in that last 15 years.

When we play Bama moving forward, we'll be on equal footing coaching wise. That should scare folks. Kelly will have us back in the Natty hunt in short order.

I’ll admit it, you surprised me. After I read what you posted yesterday, I would never have expected this kind of post from you. I’ll give you credit for not being a one-trick pony like many others who do nothing but throw out insults with every post. It’s always good to mix it up.

He coached a media darling. Media darlings, consistently get their way.
I dont think he fails at LSU, however.

This really isn’t accurate at all. The last 10 seasons, ND has had an avg SOS ranked 23rd. That’s not SECW tough, but it’s definitely far from “shite.”

I hate ND as a football program for what it stands for: holier than thou and the world should respect them for what they did eons ago instead of working to be a better program for the future.

CBK played with the cards he was dealt with. He played within his competition, albeit a somewhat mediocre schedule. The program was/is/will be soft and it will bite them on the national stage.

Probably property rated. He turned GVSU into a D2 power then had an undefeated record at Cincy back when they were meh. He completely turned ND around and had them competing for playoffs most years but never could win the games that really mattered.

IMO i think he dies very well at LSU. Not gonna go as far to say he will win titles but I think he will have LSU in the mix every year and leave them in far better shape than he found them.

Realistically, neither Miles nor Eaux could make the playoffs at ND.

ND Strength of Schedule...

2021 - 21
2020 - 7 (made playoff)
2019 - 16
2018 - 13 (made playoff)
2017 - 9
2016 - 28
2015 - 8
2014 - 32
2013 - 30
2012 - 7 (played for NC)

This idea that he only had success against a weak schedule is a bunch of bullshite.

He will be more successful than...

jimbo w/aggies
Napier w/gators
Leach w/moo state
Kiffin w/ole piss
Etc, etc, etc, etc....

He will not have the saban at bama level success, but nobody will. But he will be better than Les was overall.

He's more similar to Saban than he is Miles or Orgeron. Saban is the GOAT and he brought some great changes to LSU. If Miles and Orgeron can win a championships within 3 years of taking over, I don't see why Kelly can't.

I’m just shocked at how much folks talk about him on here. Everyone tries so damn hard to underrate him. It’s as if they speak it into existence it might happen!! Good luck with that.

All the flaming aside, I think he's pretty fairly rated.

He probably did what he personally could for Notre Dame. Maybe Freeman can do better, maybe Notre Dame just is what it is.

I'm just encouraged by what I've seen from him so far. His approach to team discipline is something that's been missing for a few years. And frankly, Miles' approach to discipline was clubhanded and unintelligent.

Supposedly Kelly isn't a great recruiter, but he did a hell of a job with the 22 class, and 23 looks better. Is that a case of Kelly finding a new spark, or LSU giving him money for the best assistants that Notre Dame wouldn't have? Maybe both.

Players look healthier. They look like they're in better shape. I know that might sound silly, but Orgeron gave zero cares about anything after the championship. I'm convinced he only walked in the building every day just to be seen.

At this point I'm truly enjoying coherent sentences consecutively spoken. The wins will follow soon enough.

He’s a weird dork, so the idea he’s going to recruit LSU like Jimbo, Saban, Dabo, Kirby, or any other person that wouldn’t say the word “faaaambily” while he’s in Baton Rouge is a definite negative for him. Now you can say, “that’s what assistants are for”, but you know that when you’re recruiting against Saban and Jimbo that no assistant coach is going to make the difference.

And on top of that, Kelly is also the weird insecure dork that would create burner accounts on twitter to defend himself and throw assistant coaches under the bus.

What’s the net result of this? Well. I expect him to recruit squarely behind Jimbo, Saban and Kirby and be kind of at the OU/Auburn level of recruiting. With good coaching, this is enough talent to be competitive and with great coaching this is enough talent to even win big. But Kelly doesn’t seem to be some sort of world beater coach. He tends to fall really flat in the big games. O well. It will be fun. But if I had to put money on it, no way he wins a natty. Just too many better things out there.

The talent thing has always been his "crutch", per se.

Not saying I think he uses it as a crutch. It's just the narrative around him.

The most surprising thing in all of this is how well ND is recruiting since he left. It makes you wonder if it's a BK recruiting thing more than a ND thing. BUT, he is recruiting well at LSU. So it's all a mystery for now.

For the record, I think he'll go down as a great hire.
