for the classes between 2010 and 2022 that kelly had a part of, ND averaged 11.8 in recruiting. For reference over that same period LSU was 7, Florida was 10.2, Auburn was 10.3, Georgia was 5.6, A&M was 12.1, Alabama was 1.78, and Tennessee was 14.8. Its not true that ND had vastly lower talent levels, there are only 5 SEC schools that averaged higher over Kelly's tenure at ND
Too big picture.
He couldn't get the DB's and WR's that LSU can. You play with the big dogs, you need those kinds of players just as much as linemen.

He had some recievers (Will Fuller, St Brown) and they had some very good TEs but yeah LSU will provide more depth at those spots.

He also averaged the #13 class over that time, which is comparable or better than everybody but Bama in the west.
You're an idiot.
LSU 247 class rankings 10 years prior to Kelly being named HC-
21 #3
20 #4
19 #5
18 #15
17 #7
16 #2
15 #5
14 #2
13 #6
12 #13
Maybe comparable or better than everybody but UGA in the East.

Brian Kelly got beat by Cincinnati, just last year.
Hmm, wonder who that offensive coordinator was?

No, had one of the top jobs for football in the country, and would rather be golfing than recruiting. He was a fat-lazy coach that underachieved bigly.

Put down that crack. You are scaring us
Posted on 8/24/22 at 2:23 pm to ChromaticTide
No. He is highly overrated imo.

But, we as SEC fans have contended for a generation now that what has fueled the SEC's meteoric rise is the different type of athlete in the South compared to the B1G footprint.
This hasn't always been bullshite but it's been bullshite since at least the early 00s when recruiting truly became a national concept.
Let's take ND's 2018 class by recruit's state. Fourteen of them were from southern states and 3 from CA.
In the 1980s? Yeah. Georgia locked up Georgia, Florida/Florida State/Miami locked up Florida. But no more.

That does nothing to disprove his point

I don't know, he has been recruiting a lot more than playing golf since he came to LSU.

In recent years he was able to somewhat hold his own in the playoffs.
They are 0-2 and have lost by a combined scored of 61-17.

Hm, his point was "ok sure the rankings are comparable but southern athletes are better" to which I pointed out that ND gets plenty of southern athletes.
So ... it does. If ND only had kids from Illinois and Iowa and Indiana then it'd be a good point.

But SEC schools still get more.
It might not be as pronounced as the 90s or whatever arbitrary starting point you wish to pick but it still clearly exists.
It’s not “bullshite”

I think he is properly rated. An upper echelon coach with the potential to become an elite coach with the inherent advantages at LSU. Certainly more competent than Les and O.

LSU is 2-0 and has outscored opponents 105-42
Imagine what Kelly could do

That's all we're saying.

There's a finite signing size, and getting 17 of your recruits from CFB hotbeds is comparable to most SEC schools.
In 2019 Alabama only got 20 from those same states.
I know it feels better if we pretend that ND just "didn't have the athletes" but it's not that simple and it's not 1985 anymore. ND signs from all over the country, just like OSU or USC.

So, 2-2 combined, aka .500.
Win the semi-final game and lose the National Championship game?
Of course, this is assuming a heisman quality QB transfers to LSU.

Basically half of the Southern kids were 3 stars.

1. They absolutely haven't had the skill players to compete with the upper echelon.
2. Ohio State and USC haven't really been much better than Notre Dame lately.

Leaning more towards winning one championship and losing in the first round in two.
I’d enjoy that three year period
