I don’t understand why they keep saying Griner was “wrongfully detained” if she actually committed the crime she was accused of committing. She broke Russia’s laws and plead guilty, don’t they have the right to detain her? If someone got caught smuggling drugs into the US, couldn’t that person be held in prison here?

The NBA told her to be extra careful in Russia months before the invasion. They sent out the memo again when the war started.
Her agent told her. Her coach told her. Everyone knows she smokes weed so her teammates probably told her too.
And she still got caught with weed.

Not a Griner fan. That being said, she broke their laws. I may think the law is bullshite but that is beside the point.
"It is impossible for a man to break the law. All he can do is break himself against it."
Cecil B. DeMille.....I think

She broke a law in a foreign country, Russia. She needs to deal with it.

Yep, rightfully.
She should of stopped playing games when the buzzer sounded.

Yes, she did the crime, she must do the time.
That said we are in the age of celebrity, the celebrities think they are above the law.

I guess we found out she would rather live in America than a russian prison.

Yes. Her detention is lawful. You have to be arrogant and stupid to break the law in a foreign country that doesn't get along well with your own.

Don’t do the crime unless you can do the time.....9 1/2 years...no parole....

Update:
quote:
A Russian court rejected Brittney Griner’s appeal of her nine-year prison sentence for drug possession on Tuesday [October 25].
The court ruled to uphold the sentence handed down to the WNBA superstar. However, in the ruling, the court stated that the time Griner will have to serve in prison will be recalculated with her time in pre-trial detention taken into account.
One day in pre-trial detention will be counted as 1.5 days in prison, which means Griner will serve around eight years in prison unless the U.S. and Russia come to an agreement on a potential prisoner swap in the future.

you dont get to say what's wrong about violating another country's laws. Break their laws, deal with their consequences.

You don't understand Russia.
If you're a foreigner and have money. You have to constantly bribe officials. The same is true for Russians just to a lesser extent.
She probably had that shite all the time and just always paid a little extra bribe.
Russia has decided to make her a political prisoner. Likely because of her race and sexuality. Both are heavily persecuted in Russia.
Shame on you for enabling and glorifying the actions of an autocratic government.

Maybe they’ll feel some sympathy and extradyke her.
