What If. We all know things change. What if the Ivy League went shopping?

Let's face it. If the IVY League decided to go all in, they could out spend all of us.
With ease.
1- Harvard is the wealthiest college in the US.
2- Yale is the second richest College.
4- Princeton... 4th richest.

They could hire the best coaching staff and the best players.....

Of late, there has been more of a push...
Now, I'm not saying they will. It's a what if.

Now you're out of your mind. You can't "buy" college football success. Yes, it takes money. But double the money won't buy it or get you there twice as fast.
It takes culture. It takes being in the right geography, and willing to take advantage of your local resources - both players and boosters. It takes being able to harmonize those.
We're getting ready to see that. Watch A&M over the next four years. They didn't "cheat". They didn't "buy a class". They artfully took full advantage of the rules as written.
And now watch them watch it all fall apart. Because they can't manage that level of talent. It's antithetical to who they are. It's a square peg in a round hole. Or, for A&M, too big a round peg in a smaller hole. You know what I mean.
The Ivy League can't write a check to win college football. They can write checks to win Pro Football. Not college. It's a different animal. Herding cats, in all honesty. Nick Saban is the most successful herder of big, strong cats in at least a century.

Endowments have nothing to do with athletics and even if they did use those funds for athletics it wouldn't make a difference...not unless there hordes of 4 and 5 stars that can now get accepted in to Ivy League

If not, TAMU would not be doing it.

I just posted where they are lowering it... And do you think everybody that is signed in the SEC actually qualifies?

I like you. Seriously - you bring up interesting topics. Odd sometimes, but usually pretty good. So how about we revisit this one in four years ? Lets bookmark this topic.
Because what I'm saying is A&M has ATTEMPTED to use maximum money to advance themselves in college football. All legal. I'm not saying they cheated in the slightest. They did not.
I'm saying it won't work. You can't buy a winning college football team. SMU couldn't do it. All the same diminishing returns and negative feedback loops and basic human nature still apply.
If you could buy winning football - Oregon would be Alabama.

LOL! Oh we both know that the chances of this are slim to none. But, if they wanted to....
BTW... If they did and pulled enough talent with MONEY, it would ripple. What I mean is their gain would be another's loss.

The kids still have to go to class.
Ivy League schools aren't running the risk of damaging their academic reps (that garner their $$$ and prestige) for pics of Reuben Foster asleep on his desk or Cadillac Williams' one page paper in crayon for full semester course credit.

So with ALL that endowment money why did A&M athletic department have to take out $330+ million for their stadium expansion?
Hell,Texas has to pass the hat for their $200 million expansion.
How come the Ivy's have such shitty facilities?
Hell,the Yale Bowl didn't even have lights til 10 years ago.

Here's the cold, hard truth as I've seen it - when it comes to attracting and retaining talent in any organization, money matters. You can't get or keep anybody without it.
But money only matters to a point. And those that are purely money motivated are typically not what you keep. Again, understand, nobody plays or works for free or "love of the game".
But there is a point, and it's usually sooner rather than later, where culture matters. Everybody needs enough money, for sure, in that collective. But at a certain level, it becomes other than purely money motivated.
The Ivy League can't buy that. The B1G can't buy that in Southern California. Texas A&M is getting ready to find out that they weren't missing out on natties because of a lack of cash.
We are literally watching what happens when supply - cash - is artificially prevented from going to the demand - success in college football. Just be patient, let this work itself out.
In ten years, everybody will laugh at the notion of simply writing a check for a College Football Championship.

It is the Golden Age for the SEC members, awesome college towns with classic college sports that are dominating. Professors still love sport and making $150-250k in a Southern College town is awesome.
