Alabama-Auburn ended regulation at 10-10 last year. Pretty abnormal in today’s CFB
2016: NC State 10 Notre Dame 3
The Wolfpack’s only touchdown wasn’t even offensive

Derrick Thomas almost single handedly won that game.
In the 5 games played in Alabama of the Alabama-Penn State series from '81-90, no TDs were scored in 3 of them. In addition to '88, Bama won 6-0 in '84 and Penn State won 9-0 in '90. Alabama only had TDs in the first game as they only managed a field goal in '86.

OP doesn't even mention 2000 Natty.
OU 13, FSU 2. The safety was intentional in the final seconds
OU had several low scoring games that year.
I put them with
'92 Bama
'02 Ohio State
Teams carried by defense, underrated, won ugly all year, then won it all.

2002 (2001 season) Cotton Bowl. OU - 10 Arkansas 3. Arkansas had 50 yards of total offense. Boring game, and even worse it was 11 am on New Years Day.

2006: Auburn 7 LSU 3
Hardest hitting football game I’ve ever seen
Also, it was pass interference

The most miserable game I’ve ever been to was in the Liberty Bowl when we beat Memphis 3-0
I would say that’s pushing the limits of “at least we made a bowl game” but I’m a Kentucky fan. There are literally about 40 times I would’ve been over the moon about a 3 to zip Liberty Bowl win.
“And hey, Memphis is no slouch!”

1979 Alabama only gave up 67 points all year. That 3-0 game must have been a classic considering LSU played that well to not allow the Tide to get in the end zone.
LSU lost to two different #1 ranked teams that season by a total of 8 points. They lost to #1 USC at the time 17-12 in September. My grandpa still talks about the USC game every now and then.

OP; SHAME on you!!!
1976 Texas-OU 6-6
OU won 5 in a row prior to 76. Earl's junior year. Billy Sims out for the year. Texas fumbled and OU scored. OU extra point try with 1:39 remaining went over Uwe von Schamann's head.
We sat on the 50, right next to the OU Fans. Just new we were going to fight after the game. Long ride home..
DKR retired at the end of the season.

Bama beat LSU 3-0 on a late FG in 1979 in a cold driving rain in Baton Rouge. Rained the whole game.

This was a regular season game. Ole Miss and Memphis used to play the first game of the year a decent amount

Both Miami and Nebraska were better than Auburn that season
Miami was mediocre all year. Got the shite kicked out of them by Florida to open the season. They beat exactly two teams that finished the season ranked : #16 West Virginia and #20 East Carolina. Meanwhile, AU beat 4 teams ranked in the top 15 in their last 5 games (and the other game was against Maryland, which was ranked #7 at gametime).
The Canes lucked into an Orange Bowl invite by a Nebraska team that figured they’d be easy pickings. Sure, they played the game of their lives, but they didn’t deserve the NC that year.
Hell. UGa had a better claim to #1 than the U did.

Actually that was the first Iron Bowl to be played in Tuscaloosa in decades. Also, frick that game.

OU scored double-digits. The thread is about games where both teams didn’t reach double-digits. And the safety at the end wasn’t intentional. It was a high, bad snap, and the smart decision was to down it for a safety rather than a fumble recovery for a TD.

I wasn’t around in the Seventies so none of this immediately came to mind. Sooners were the 2x defending national champs in a down year. Horns, Sooners, Hogs, Tide, Irish would a year later contend for a national title in late November.
Another notable single-digit score fest was in 1973 where defending champion USC and soon to be future 2x defending champion in 74 and 75 OU played to a 7-7 tie.
