When is the last time we had guys taken in the 1st back to back seasons? Other than winning games having high nfl draft picks is the best way to recruit high school players, for some it’s even more important than wins and losses. This is big for Pittman if we can start pumping out just 1 or 2 stars a year

Well we’ve only had 9 guys including Burks to go in the first round in the 30 years of being in the SEC.
I saw that stat the day before the draft.
Felix and DMC were both 1st round right?

We had, I think, some first round quality athletes that fizzled out on campus since we've been in the SEC. We really have not been great at developing talent once it gets here. That trend seems to be changing.
The current coaching staff isn't perfect, but they do seem to be good at getting the best out of their talent. A few more 1st round picks and Arkansas becomes a much more desirable place to play football.

Deatrich wise should’ve been a monster here. He’s probably the most gifted pass rusher we’ve had at Arkansas in 20 years but because he was never developed or used properly most of your average fans have no idea who he is or how good he really was

He flashed at times but never honed his craft here unfortunately. He had all the measurables and talent in the world though

if we had the right coaching staff
the Lou Holtz hire - home run by Broyles, but then Broyles ran him off
Ken Hatfield hire - excellent hire by Broyles but then Broyles couldn't keep his fingers out of the pie and ran Hatfield off
Jack Crowe hire - Broyles lost his mind
Danny Ford hire - everyone on the planet could see that Ford didn't really care about Arkansas, everyone except Broyles. Arkansas was a toy to Ford. A model airplane. Just something for a bored old man to do. Lazy hire.
Nutt - I'm not a Nutt hater, but the Nutt hire over Tommy Tuberville was just another lazy hire by Broyles. Lazy hire #3 in a row. Plus we had a good ole boy real estate guy running Broyles.
Petrino hire - homerun finally, then tragedy
Bielema - hired amidst a power shift that was sorely needed, but instigated by the wrong people. Dumb became Dumber. Plus Malzahn backers poisoning the water.
Morris - A combination of a power vacuum, prideful good ole boys, more prideful POS Malzahn backers poisoning the water, and a lying arse media willing to blame it on an interim AD lady = Worst hire in the history of college football.
Pittboss - Amid more Malzahn backers still trying to poison the water, sullen prideful BOT, etc, the new AD pulls a rabbit out of a hat

Steve Atwater and Wayne Martin went in the 1st round the same year...'88 or '89.
**Just realized yall were talking about since we've been in the SEC.

the more I think, the more I realize that passing on Tommy Tuberville was simply another Broyles slam on Jimmy Johnson since Tub worked for Jimmy
Broyles was jealous of players he'd coached, and coaches he'd hired
No wonder Johnson ran the score up on us in 1987 - I don't blame him

Wasn't Batman a 1st rounder to the Packers?
Also don't know how everyone has forgotten Matt Jones and Shawn Andrews.
That's like seven 1st rounder, freak athlete types during Nutt's 10-year span as HC.
I know we all had issues with his coaching, his ego, his underachieving, his lack of ability to develop a QB, etc, etc, etc.... But Houston Dale knew how to get NFL talent and let it flourish.
He also found some true diamonds like Jamaal Anderson, who was a 2* recruit and turned into a top 10 pick.
If we could pay HDN as a consultant/brand ambassador just to help scout recruits, and he was barred from the facility, I'd be all for it.

Nutt sure did waste some serious talent in his time on the hill.

It think the bigger question now is... How the hell are we winning games in the SEC and hanging with Bama when we only had 3 draft picks this year and one pick last year... And the overwhelming majority of them are in the mid-late rounds.
What Pittman and his staff have done almost can't be quantified.

He had questionable work ethic and Bert never got the best out of his teams consistently. Wise seemed to save his best for the NFL.

Batman was but he really liked the track program and that was one of the reasons he came.
Matt Jones and Shawn Andrews were hog fans and so the decisions were easy.
Reggie Herring gets the credit for the development of Jamaal Anderson.
The same coach that had the worst recruiting class back in 2000? Where he panicked and took multiple redshirts off a bunch of players when he started the SEC 0-3? The same coach that the SEC had to put a limit on players signed in a recruiting class and that on purpose signed several players that wouldn't be academically eligible?
Hell no, keep him as far a way from the current program as possible.

Bert always got the least possible out of the talent he had to work with. And there was a decent amount of talent on those teams
