Bear tags and other costs make it NOT feasible to meat-hunt for bear

I have a package of tags that include deer, elk, bear, cougar, turkey, salmon/steelhead and migratory birds for a tad over $200. The same rifle to hunt elk can hunt black bear.

Knowing the source of your meat, knowing that it was never penned, fed non-native sources of food, or that it was being overly stressed before being slaughtered. And most folks who go through this process of hunting for meat are typically philosophically aligned with doing it to make it as humane as they can.

I completely understand folks not agreeing with the practice, but there are certainly arguments for it. And I didn't even touch on where that money goes and the ideological tenets many in the community have on hunting for your own meat.

This may be true but I've eaten bear meat and it's fricking awful. It's oily as hell and has to be eaten well-done to avoid trichinosis. Turrible, turrible, turrible.

And most in African too - except maybe elephant, rhino or hippo.

Bear meat is one of those things that highly depend on what they are eating when you kill it. Trash bears taste trashy. The fat from black bears is highly regarded, however. When rendered, you can drink it from a glass like water, it is so mild.

You are right about trichinosis though, must be well done. Most people pressure cook into stews and chili and whatnot.

I don't think that I'm "small minded", but just don't understand the fascination with killing an animal that has NO reason to be killed for some instinctual desire to kill another one of God's creatures just to satisfy the urge...Sorry.

There wouldn't be a lot of successful hunting to be had for a black bear on the African savanna. It's not equipped for that environment. Interestingly, there are only three inhabitable continents on the planet that have no species of bear, Africa, Central America, and Australia. Do you dig it?

We have bears where I live...

Would be fine with me, if all of them were obliterated from the area. Wrecks, cattle killed, dog killed, etc.

But other than that, there needs to be some culling of some of these animals for their own health even. Thankful for ethical hunters myself.
