I really don't like this at all. Wilks isn't the favorite for the job and he's probably a "Rooney Rule" candidate. Does he want to leave Mizzou so bad? And if he doesn't get the job, how does he convince his players he's "all in?"

People have the right to do why they want and try to better their situation, but you are right.
He probably won’t get it, but you certainly can’t feel like he’s very committed if he comes back.

Plus, Drinkwitz hired Blake Baker and he will be a huge help to work with other defensive coaches and defensive players no matter what the situation is with Wilks.

Well, looks like the Giants are hiring a former game show host for DC, so Wilkes is staying.

That looks like Drink was done with Wilks.

Yea, maybe Drink told him it was time to go their different ways.

Especially if the new DC was just hired and instantly promoted. DC is not a position you make changes that quickly.

Yep. Definitely sounds like Drink was done with him.

this feels like a situation where Wilks was done with college. There aren't a ton of NFL coaches that come back to college. Guessing they don't like the demands of recruiting and spending energy on the "feelings" of their players.

Granted I don't watch but NFL players are pussies too

In college you develop talent, there are no quick fixes. In the NFL you draft and use free agency to upgrade. Plus everyone in the NFL is talented. 2 different approaches to the game.

We basically have free agency in the college game now as well. The biggest difference, and I can't blame the guy for not liking it, is recruiting. Maybe he didn't like the idea of recruiting 24/7 like Drink does.
I'm sure Drink's staff is expected to recruit at a certain level. Perhaps Wilks didn't like the idea of having to call/text high school kids every day. I know I wouldn't want to have to mess with all that. He may just want to coach football, specifically DBs.

"Rooney Rule" candidate.
How any man on earth would want to get hired under the RR is beyond me......"hey hire me I'm almost that color."
And before the "muh racism" posters speak up, the NFL cares about green, not black or white.

Art Rooney sponsored the Rooney Rule because he heard how ownership viewed Black candidates as head coaches, GMs or even QBs.
But, a rule like this is made to be extinguished if the pervasive thoughts have changed. All evidence seems to point to it has changed. The Miami, Giants, Flores deal looks bad, but that may have been exacerbated by the Rooney Rule.
