It's about advancing his position. But, this legislation is BS. No one is being denied the right to vote. Hell, Democrats in NYC are letting illegals vote.

He can frick off with that. Be the goat coach, don't stick your nose into stuff you know nothing about.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s about his position with recruits and players, but he’s sending this letter to the same guy he campaigned for, saying no one could ever be better for WV. I wonder how Saban would react to a bunch of politicians sending him a letter telling him how to make coaching decisions.

Good for him. Trying to make it harder for people to vote is BS

Don't care either way about this. Saban has a fine balancing act with this stuff when it comes to players. He has made the right call to stay relevant for recruiting purposes every time.

I'm not excited about the federal government intervening on how elections are managed but I do think federal elections would benefit from a rational and consistent form across state lines.
Leaving this process entirely to the states was a blind spot for the Founding Fathers. They never conceived of partisan politics. Ignorant in hindsight but they thought the prevailing partisanship was more crown v. parliament being 18th century anglo creatures. They couldn't help it...they were optimists about the democratic republican project. Additionally, they never imagined that the franchise would be as widely granted as it has been since the early 20th century. The audience for who got to decide the government was much smaller until the removal of property ownership restrictions, race-based restrictions, and eventually sex-based restrictions. Hell, the way senators were selected until the late 19th century didn't even involve a direct popular vote.
This is just not the federal system the Founding Fathers imagined and that's okay. It adapted to keep up with international competition and changing domestic circumstances. The federal electoral process probably should not be invested in the states because partisanship has become a delegitimatizing force against our nation. I fear that not acting on this now will just lead to even more heightened contradictions between what normal people want and outcomes in government. When those contradictions accumulate past what people can tolerate...well that's when the bloody business actually happens not the stupid LARPs at it like last January.

I feel like its one of those scenarios where Dems are asking for a lot but really want less. If they had the votes they would just do whatever they are going to do, but our political system is a lot of open air negotiation through the media. If you want $3T for an infrastructure bill, you ask for $5T, for example.
That said, the real problem with "voting rights" is places closing DMVs in poor, mostly minority areas to cut costs, those people (who generally don't get much time off and may not have reliable transportation) now have to go a long way to get their ID, therefore not having something they can use to vote. I don't think there is a law anywhere in this country specifically made to try to limit voting access for certain groups of people, but there are government actions that do affect certain groups more than others.

I've been Black all my life and I don't know any Black people who have had their right to vote infringed upon. None. So, I know this legislation is a Trojan horse to push laws that will destroy this country. Sorry but I'm getting political because there is bullshite afoot in this legislation.

And, states controlling their own elections works fine. No fricking way will I ever support federalizing elections. No way!

Makes two of us Shaft.. it’s BS

Trying to make it harder for people to vote is BS. Falling for the lie that people are making it harder to vote today than during the civil rights era and we are experiencing Jim Crow on steroids is also BS

And you do?

This is such a tone deaf take.

I believe the federal government should get to more explicitly define the parameters of how to execute federal elections but the states and municipalities should retain the right to conduct their elections how they see fit within existing laws that may apply.
I don't think the federal government should be putting costly, onerous requirements on how city council elections get executed. That seems rife with problems.

The only Jim Crow we are experiencing today is Covid mandates from Democrats.

Voter ID racist.. ID to do everything else ok.. yea I’m not that stupid. With our open borders IDs need to be mandatory. Plain and simple. Thinking my black azz is too dumb to get an ID is racist.

We could virtue signal like Major League Baseball and move our Spring Game to a state like Colorado who has stricter voting laws than we do.
ETA: This is obviously a joke, but I do find it fricking hilarious that MLB moved the all-star game out of Georgia to a Blue state with stricter voting laws than what Georgia passed last year. Complete clown world.

And he can suck my balls for it, too. frick him.
He should focus on coaching football and hiring competent coordinators and assistant coaches and not getting his shite pushed in on the field instead of spending time writing letters supporting Democrats’ efforts to cheat in elections.

I agree with you. It's crazy that common sense like this puts some Blacks on the outs with a lot of other Blacks. No White liberal is doing any favors for Black people; never have. I'm going to stop commenting but I tell you White liberals are an evil, racist group.
