Going to church is not even a comparable action because anybody can go. Simply expressing a political view is also something that is open to anybody. Why would you need to proof of your identity for either of those things?

Voting is open for citizens aged 18 and up and can only be done one time. It’s not something anybody can do and only do a limited time. And you’re not just expressing political views, you’re choosing policy makers. That’s an important act yet ID is somehow not required.

know they want to pass this before the midterms, but why are they freaking out about it this week? Is there some deadline I'm not aware of?

Because the State of the Union is in 6 weeks and they already swung and missed hard on the infrastructure bill. They are using MLK this week to apply pressure via the media. If they do not get the voting rights bill passed before the State of the Union the dems are in serious trouble.

Last week Biden approval rate was sitting at 33%

Well that makes sense. From my own research it appears Chuck Shumer is the one setting the deadlines and they keep failing miserably.

Oof. I don't know who should be more embarrassed.

Biden for it being that low or the 33% who think he is doing a good job.

Without looking, can anyone tell me what's actually in the bill?

Let's just leave this crap alone!
It's gonna do nothing but "ruffle feathers" and stir up things that don't pertain to the advancement of the football program.

Did I miss where our Constitution got amended to require you to be a unique US citizen over the age of 18 to go to church or express a political view or are you just REALLY bad at making analogies?

I recently went to an Indian casino and was told to bring two forms of ID in case I win big, preferably DL and SS card.

I think the threshold was 6k+ winnings when you had to show ID. That was an eye opener for me.

So any poor or undocumented person who plays lotto or gambles better have ID

Now do, “Need an ID to buy a gun,” dipshit.

Or work.
Or open a bank account.
Or have a utility turned on.
Or see a doctor.
Or purchase a controlled substance/medication.
Or fly on an airplane.
Or get into a bar.

I mean, the list could go on and on and on, endlessly.

I’m not sorry we won’t let you cheat.

In states where they're requiring vaccine passports to enter buildings, you have to provide an ID to prove it's your vaccine passport, so this list then becomes "need an ID to do literally anything."

I've been a registered voter in Florida since 1996 and I still frequently get paper mail from the state urging me to register to vote.

I don’t think the concept of voter identification is onerous. The problem is with ease of access to acquiring the valid identification that is the driving issue.

Everyone is dancing around that point but then again everyone will just dance around ease of access too now that I’ve painted them into a new rhetorical corner.

It is extremely easy to get an ID. For everyone.

That being said, the state of Alabama will drive to your house to issue you a voter ID if you are that much of a pathetic sack. I'm sure they do 10s of people yearly.

Mississippi does the same thing.

Doesn't get much easier than that.

So what's the issue?

This issue is that it makes it harder to cheat.

That’s the ONLY issue.

I'm of AA descent and a Libertarian. The elites can rig this game only so long before the whole system implodes. Every day there is growing talk of secession and the like. Even NPR acknowledged this recently.

They call me the puppet master because I make the puppets dance. Jk jk

But seriously I am skeptical of these services because they have so little visibility. I’ve almost only ever heard about them as a retort to exactly what I just said. Makes me skeptical that the state is actually aggressive about addressing the potential blind spot for access.

Here's the LINK to the web form on the Secretary of State's website to request the Photo Voter ID Unit come to your house. I am not a moron, so I've never had to use it, but I'm sure calling and requesting by phone would work too.

You can also get a free photo voter ID at the Board of Registrars office in every county of Alabama.

That’s because almost nobody needs those services.

And that’s because almost every single person of voting age has an ID.

And that’s because they already have to have one for almost every other area of adult life.

Yep. Alabama put this in the voter ID law because it made it impossible to claim getting an ID would be a burden. We all knew no one was going to need it. If anyone doubts it's legit, request one for yourself. I'll bet you're contacted.
