I know everyone has penciled him in as gone, but I don’t know if that’s the case anymore with the ACL year. Just looking at most mocks, he’s sitting around the end of the second or the start of the third. With the recovery timeline it would give him enough room to come back in September or even August, and he could work himself into a late first.

I doubt it, but with NIL money these days, that may mitigate the leaving for the draft for a lot of players.

Just from a contract perspective it makes sense to me. A move from last in the second round to first in the second round is a little over 4M (8M contract vs 4M) doubling the total contract value. So worst case scenario, he makes back that 1.25M a year he’s missed out on (annual value 64th pick) relatively quickly even if he doesn’t crack the first. I think if he finishes next year he’ll crack the 20’s, which is tripling that contract he’s projected to get if he goes around 23-24.
Even without NIL I’m seeing enough opportunity cost to justify it.

Based on the timing of his injury, when would he be able to be back at full speed? Would he be able to play most of next season to improve his draft stock. Just wondering.

Williams is in the same spot as Metchie. The smart move is to return in the fall even though both will not be ready to rumble until November.
Or do both take a chance they will be drafted in April even with their ACL recovery will not have them ready to play in the fall (NFL).
Truth is both are screwed due to the timing of their injury.

Didn’t Pickens tear his ACL in spring practice? It’s pretty amazing how fast some guys are recovering from that these days.

The ACL isn't the injury it was in the past due to medical advances. Williams and Metchie will get drafted. I honestly don't anticipate either losing much as far as positioning in the draft due to their ACL injuries.

Why not? He isn’t going in the first two rounds. With the injury, he’s likely waiting until the last day.

I think Williams situation is different. He was looking at top 15 prior to the injury. I still think he’s a first round maybe early second.
I edited to say Metchie was improving his draft status pre injury.

I don't see Metchie improving to be a 1st round pick even if he comes back. He is a high end #2 WR for us. At the NFL level he will be at best a #2 or may be a #3 possession receiver. He does not have the top end speed to be a #1. My guess is a day two guy at the draft even if he comes back.

Yea that’s what I was getting at, I don’t think the injury will effect either’s draft stats too much. I personally think Metchie leaves too. He’s a borderline first rounder but regardless, I don’t know what else he could do to improve is stock with another year. He had a huge year this season and is a great route runner and he is what he is athletically. Nothing changes with another year in college.

I agree. It really is an awful misfortune because in my opinion, pre injury, he was heading into a possible 1st round pick.
He could have with great combine numbers.

I think it's 50/50 both come back now with the unfortunate injuries.
No NFL team is wasting a 1st round pick on someone who won't contribute next year, especially on a receiver.
It all depends on the draft grades, how quickly they are expected to heal and what their family situations are.
If some booster NIL deals are set up, that could hold them over next season and both would benefit from going into the 2023 draft completely healthy.
Plus another year with Young throwing them the ball will only help and there is unfinished business to take care of.
No NFL team is wasting a 1st round pick on someone who won't contribute next year, especially on a receiver.

After this kind of injury, I think it’s best for both to go. Neither would be 100 percent before the season and another year in college is not changing much for either. Get healthy fellas, and go live out your dreams

I remember years ago Rod Woodson when he was playing for the Steelers tore his ACL and was able to play in the Super Bowl that same season. But, I admit I don't know what's going on with ACL injuries nowadays where guys tear their ACL and they are walking around without crutches 30-45 minutes post-injury like Metchie and Jameson.

I tore mine in a game in 06 and walked on it for 4 days without crutches before getting the MRI confirming I tore it. That bitch swole up instantly and had to cut my pants at the knee pads to get them off
